I think the motive for him to send this out is called a 'pre-empt.' That's when you anticipate attacks in the near future (like a presidential campaign) and you bring up the dirty stuff first and put a positive spin on it. His spin in the text was 'Some may criticize me for this...but I believe it was the right thing to do.'

Goes like this:
His campaign people put together a list of "worst videos of you that the GOP will run ads about in the campaign".
The strategy is then to put them out on friendly sites (like this DNC email) so no one gets shocked by the GOP version coming up.

He's not trying to deter the commies from getting turned off. But he needs a LOT of centrists to win the election. Ninety percent of those centrists are not gonna like seeing Gavin celebrating two fat gay slobs. There will be a LOT of other embarrassing videos presented by the GOP in rapid fire. He's trying to vaccinate the public in small doses.

I don’t think anyone that matters can be swayed by two happy round guys happily getting married.

Like I explained...it's the first of 100s. The GOP probably has a stockpile of 1,000 clips of Gavin saying/doing something stupid. And they've got twice as much money as the Dems to air the stuff. In most past elections they were behind the Dems on funding. Things have changed. Corporations aren't worried about giving Dems 'Eat Me Last' money.
