Chris Paul announces retirement from NBA after 21 seasons

He was waived by the Toronto Raptors on Friday after being traded from the LA Clippers on February 4. The Raptors did not require Paul to report to the team and had looked to move him before the trade deadline. The Raptors knew Paul would never play in Toronto, and that begged the question about whether the Wake Forest legend would try to finish the season with another team in pursuit of the thing he never got -- an NBA title. The answer came Friday. He's done. He said last summer that he has hated missing events with his children over the last few years, and now he can devote himself much more to his family and other interests. "It's time for me to show up for others and in other ways," Paul wrote. Paul strongly hinted earlier this season that this year was going to be his last. He was a four-time All-NBA first team selection, and he ranks second in NBA history with 12,552 assists and 2,728 steals. He was the first player to score at least 20,000 points while recording at least 10,000 assists; LeBron James and Russell Westbrook have both since done that as we

Paul, Harden, Westbrook, will never win an nba title. Kind of this era’s Barkley, Ewing, Stockton and Malone.
Probably can throw Booker, Mitchell, Butler and Embiid in that group too.

Retire his number. Our best teams and his ugly exit was the least ugly of all our franchise players.

Sucks that the Clippers couldn't handle him being hard on the younger players that they unceremoniously cut him in what everyone knew was his last season.
Will always be so thankful that he came through New Orleans. Dude had to put up with practicing in the Alario Center and had us finish one game out of 1st place. He was the true MVP in 07-08, but the NBA felt they had to give Kobe a legacy award.

Chris Paul was truly amazing to watch in his prime.
He took a starting roster of Trevor Ariza, Carl Landry, Emeka Okafor and Marco Belinelli on the road against the Kobe/Pau/Bynum/Odom/Artest lakers and dropped 33 points and 14 assists to put the hornets up 1-0, and dropped a triple double to even the series in game 4.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one guy carry a comically overmatched roster to respectability in a playoff series.
That laker team was giant across the board and this little guy dominated. Among the best performances I’ve ever seen.
(Him having a flawless effort to knock us out in game 6 with the suns is also up there).

Can’t really blame him for wanting off a team that the league had to take over.
