Zuckerberg's net worth is estimated around $240 billion (recent figures vary slightly but hover in that range).

If the 5% wealth tax had applied and he remained a California resident, it could have cost him roughly $11–12 billion (5% of ~$220–240 billion, after any $1 billion exemption threshold).

Chamath Palihapitiya have claimed broader billionaire exits (including Zuckerberg) are causing California's taxable billionaire wealth to drop sharply (e.g., from over $2 trillion to under $1 trillion in recent weeks), implying billions in lost future revenue overall

Democrats are like locusts, destroying one productive place then swarming to the next.

If the bill passes it applies retroactively. So if he was still there at the beginning of the year he will still take the hit. But you know they will go back to this well if it passes so it's the right move.

quote:

If voters approve the measure, anyone who was a California resident on Jan. 1, 2026, would owe the tax, according to the proposal’s language.

I'm pretty sure Zuckerberg lives in Kauai, where he is building a massive bunker.

Instead of not paying taxes in Cali he will not pay taxes in Florida. Cool.

Nope. He supports all of this and then some. He should be the FIRST ONE lining up to pay.

Most people forget that he screwed his 2 college roommates with whom he had been working on the initial FaceBook model. He filed a patent in his own name behind their backs and / permission. They sued & won, but were only awarded $300K each. He got to keep full ownership of FaceBook. Now a multi billionaire.

With all the loopholes today if he paid any it would be a minimal %. About 3.5%

What percentage you pay?

With all the wealthy running out of state, the smaller folks then become the upper class. And they need to remember they voted for every last bit of this.

True. People like Biden and Trump. All Zuck is doing is bribing whomever is in power.

They will try and pass a bill sometime this year.......and make it retroactive????

As someone posted before, hell why not make it effective 20 years past and collect taxes on everyone who lived there decades ago and then became rich?
