Where would you rank Woodward amongst LSU AD’s all time?

He caught lightning in a bottle with Jay Johnson. Kim wanted to come home( Hammond native) Hiring BK and McMahon with terrible contracts. He has to be near or at the bottom

He tried to hire Sully and Pat Casey first. When he was told no he went to Omaha and started handing out offers to the coaches there. Jay said yes before Vitello. He gets no credit for trying to make two bad hires and then taking a shotgun approach in a target rich environment.

I am so tired of this fabrication. He wanted O’Sullivan from Florida and he got turned down. How hard is it to sell LSU baseball anyways? We’ve led the nation in attendance for over 20+ years and had six national championships when he got here. Stop giving that fat slob credit for that.

He's near the bottom for me. I'll never forgive his treatment and handling of Will Wade.

Name one who hasn't been a political "Bottom Feeder".
I just survival at LSU.

McMahon was not a bad contract. This is bullshite hindsight.

BK is another story, but we all thought that was a big time hire we stole from Notre Dame and that was (is) market for big time coaches. It just didn't work out because Kelly decided to coast. He's been a workaholic his entire career and that stopped with the big check I guess.

National titles in baseball, women's basketball, and gymnastics. Helped build a strong NIL program.

People forget we've had guys like Joe fricking Dean as AD.

To answer OP, he's probably somewhere in the middle all time.

He is better than Joe Alleva, Joe Dean and probably Skip.

Like it or not, under his watch he hired

Jay Johnson GOAT
Kim Mulkey, A hall of famer
Jay Clark

All have national titles with probably more coming for all three coaches.

Woah now. Woody was bad but I’m not going that far with it. Alleva is the worst AD LSU has had in my lifetime and by a pretty wide margin.

Yeah, Jay Johnson was not exactly an unknown commodity either since he has already been runner-up for a NC at Arizona and also won a NC there. And Mulkey was burning her bridge at Baylor and specifically has stated she was ready to move back to LA.

I thought the Kelly hire was a good one but obviously it wasn't. I said at the time that the McMahon hire was Curley Hallman 2.0. Coaches who made their reputations at mid level schools based upon 1 player. McMahon with Morant and Hallman with Favre. And I haven't even mentioned the Woodward fiasco hiring Jimbo Fisher at A&M who I knew was a disaster when he hired him

Lot's of great college basketball coaches come from mid-majors and he didn't have Ja Morant for most of his stretch at Murray, including his best year (his last season there).

Records the two years with Ja Morant:

26-6
28-5

Records three years after Ja Morant:

23-9
13-13
31-3 (LSU hired after this season)

McMahon wasn't seen as a bad hire by most people. It just hasn't worked out. It'll be cheap to fire him. We move on.

Alleva hired a NC winning football coach and an SEC champion mend basketball coach.

Woodward? Saddled LSU with two of the five largest coaching buyouts of all time in football and his men’s basketball coach has a sec winning % worse than Curley.

Mulkey didn’t want to come home. She was dissatisfied with Baylor not fulfilling their promises.

exacly. If Alleva had still been AD, he would have hired Ole Miss' baseball coach Mike Bianco. Just a lazy AD
