Unpopular opinion - The HR needs to start over with the SAVE Act - bc married women

Republicans need married women. The SAVE Act as written could frick married women in blue hellholes bc if it ever passed, blue hellholes would use this birth certificate stuff to prevent them from voting. They need to start over.
I speak with some knowledge on this topic which may be enlightening- When I got married I didn’t legally change my name bc it was too big of a hassle. I will legit do anything to avoid standing in a line at any government office, and this sounded fraught with that shite. When I got divorced - I didn’t have to start over again with that pain in the arse process - to go back to anything - which was the one thing that was not painful about the horrific experience of getting divorced that I would never wish on my worst enemy.
While married, I just put my married name on party invitations and Junior League Correspondence.
All my friends who did change their names had to to do something at the social security office, which was a total pain in the arse. At least in Louisiana if the name on your drivers license isn’t the same as your birth certificate- you had to submit paperwork to get the drivers license. Plus the SS office should have those documents as well.
I can Only imagine how fricked up this may be for a woman who has been married for 20 yrs, got her license with her married name on it issued in the banana republic of Louisiana and then moved to Texas or something and now needs to have her name matching the one on her birth certificate to get a “Real ID” if she doesn’t have a passport.
I frankly don’t believe that voter ID as “proof of citizenship” will solve anything bc most election laws are routinely NOT enforced and nothing happens when states don’t enforce their own laws (see: e.g. 2020 General Election). By and large this nonsense is perpetrated by fake ballots submitted by dead people, homeless people, nutrient home people, and various other fake people drafted by the dominant political party in the specific location and then submitted through the mail or shady ballot harvesting operations.
The real way to fix it is to REQUIRE in person voting in federal elections, and proof of citizenship required for absentee voting in federal election.
The voter rules can and should be cross referenced with SSNs /tax records by the federal government, and then have ppl show state issued identification at the polling place. There will have already been some degree of citizenship in advance.
My 2 cents. Do it that way - and the SAVE ACT would have a way better shot of making it into law.

Limiting voting in the way that you described would be a bigger win than keeping illegals from voting

As long as Thune is majority leader, nothing done to "fix" the SAVE Act will get it passed.
You know what all married women have?
A marriage license.
You know what is in that marriage license?
Their maiden name.
That and their birth certificate meets requirements.
Many also have a passport, which is self authenticating.

My mom was married, divorced and married again and changed her name all three times. It took her a total of like 20 days combined for all three scenarios. Shes 64. She’s lived 23,360 days, roughly.
I think securing the voting rights of our country is more important than a woman spending 20 days of her life to legally change her name. Probably a pretty popular opinion for those who care about this country and the future our children will live in moreso their ourselves

It wasn't a big deal to get a driver's license or real ID for me. I just took copies of my birth certificate and my marriage certificate and my SS card and then needed some bills that showed we live in our home in Arkansas.
We have voter ID in Arkansas and I love it!! We did not have voter ID in California, and it never felt safe there. It feels much more secure in Arkansas.

If you think the risk of impeding some percent of married women from voting is a winner - then ok.
I think a state issued ID is fine. And you eliminate the problem by having the
Federal Government cross reference state voter rolls against naturalization and tax records. If some illegal shows an ID and he’s not on the voter rolls- well - too bad.
Absentee ballots SHOULD require proof of citizenship by real id/ passport, etc., and should only be provided in very finite circumstances.
The only thing that will actually reduce fraud is in person voting with early voting limited to one week or something

When there is doubt, they use a provisional ballot, and if she has an ID, it’s all good. There’s no reason not to pass this but Democratic fraud.

My 3 cents - women shouldn't vote. Solves lots of shite

I thinnk voter ID will help but otherwise agree with you.
Not voting in person should be rare, and there should be good cause.
I am fine with voting in person before election day (that is what we do in Tennessee), But mail-in ballots are bullshite unless you are infirm or perhaps out of the country.

good reminder that a lot of people on here hate women almost as much as liberals

All the men and women that have died for this country and you are complaining about having to stand in line to change a name. Oh the horror.
Posted on 2/10/26 at 8:19 pm to Wednesday
I don't know how divorce and name change works, but I have my BC and MC on hand easily.
I do know my mom had to account for all her name changes once when moving from one state to another- it was a shitshow, birth name, adopted name, married name, divorce cert, marriage 2 name, divorce cert, marriage 3 name, death cert from hus#3, marriage 4 name.
My mama got more aliases than the top ten on the Most Wanted list combined.

I get it, just seems selfish of women not to sacrifice a few days of their life to do things the right way. If this was a male issue, y’all would be saying the same thing to us. If you can’t follow basic procedure and make a minor sacrifice of your time, just vote democrat. We might as well accelerate all this and get it over with anyways.
I don’t trust the federal govt to count my worthless pennies, they don’t need to be cross referencing anything across any systems. What the solution is, I dunno. Yours does make a ton of sense, sadly the track record of those who you’re suggesting execute it is as reliable as a heroin addict

Minor sacrifice? It’s like death by a thousand paper cuts. My husband wanted me to change my name. I didn’t have strong opinions one way or the other so I did it. I was getting my masters when we got married. The university screwed up my name on my degree. It has First name Birth middle name Married last name despite my legal name being First name Maiden name Married last name.
Last semester, my name randomly reverted to my maiden name at my current university despite my never having applied or enrolled there using my maiden name. To get it changed back to my married name, I have to provide copies of legal documents. It’s just a pain in the arse. All my degrees will have different names on them.

Wednesday, I appreciate you explaining your position. Your input matters here, and elsewhere.
That said, I do agree with others that there should be ways to keep women on the voter rolls without giving up the security needed to protect election integrity.
For a long time now, we’ve seen voting issues that don’t sit right with a lot of people. Given that, it’s hard not to question why there’s such strong resistance to voter ID.

Over 137 million Americans have a real id which is all that is required to register to vote if the save act is law. You have to prove citizenship which real id does, and it's honestly not that hard.
Plus if you want to fly domestically you either need a passport or real ID, plus a few other forms of identifications, all of which are easy to get.
Registering to vote is easier than getting real ID. You may already have a real ID, you have birth certificate and may have a passport. Military id works too. The only people who don't or can't get one are immigrants who can't vote. Stop complaining democrats.
Also if you lost your birth certificate it costs $34 to get a certified certificate replacement. Is that really that hard? That's like two fast food meals.

Agree entirely. I’m just saying that it will complicate voting for married women, and that can and probably will be abused by Democrats for whom if the SAVE act would actually pass - would be the only election law that democrats ever met would ever be enforced.
Absolutely do it - 1) require a government issued ID for in person voting; 2) require proof of citizenship for new registration; 3) require proof of citizenship for absentee voting (and limit any vote transmitted thru the mail)
If we do it without thinking - just to “do something” we will screw it up. And we will end up placing an obstacle that would mean some proportion of legal voters would say it’s just not worth the bother.
Voter ID GOOD. There are other ways to require proof of citizenship besides providing random records to the volunteers checking IDs at polling places.
