Finally saw the Final and edited version last night and it was so so bad.

Glad I held out so long. Wish I would had let it lie.

Just nothing redeemable in comparison to the first two.

Seemed like they had a good idea and then another idea and then another idea and jammed it altogether and failed to develop any of the new characters and or the story line.

Just really bad. Yikes

I always try then we get to the reception where Mary is just throwing the pussy at her cousin and it's weird as frick. I could see if they made it a scenario where they just couldn't deny each other even though it was forbidden but they were dtf the first time we see them. Also casting George Hamilton was insane, was like casting Carrot Top.

The re-edit did absolutely nothing to help.

G3 doesn't stick the landing for many reasons, and I think it starts with cinematography. It looks so different from the first two. We can certainly debate the merits of Sofia Coppola, but the whole incestuous relationship is just oft putting.

I agree that there were good ideas there, but the execution and not having Robert Duvall back as Tom absolutely killed the film.

I actually don't think the film was that bad. I think it was just facing an impossible task of ever measuring up to the first two due to the fact that the original story involving Robert Duvall's Tom Hagen had to be cut due to Duvall backing out of the project over financials. Not only that, Francis Ford Coppolla had to cast his daughter Sofia in the role of Mary due to Winona Ryder dropping out of the project something like 36 hours before she was scheduled to start filming her scenes.

What people don't remember is that the film was still very well-received by critics and audiences in the moment, and even managed to nab the second-most Academy Award nominations behind only Dances With Wolves that year.

If we are being honest the first 2 Godfather films were great for their time but not all that awesome either if you compare them to the best of the last 50 years like Goodfellas and Casino which are a couple of my favorite gangster movies.

Goodfellas

I can't tell you how overrated that film is to me. I love Martin Scorsese but I have never gotten the hype behind Goodfellas. It has some great moments and some solid performances from Ray Liotta, Paul Sorvino, and Joe Pesci, but the story is so disjointed. There is barely a plot and the Lufthansa heist isn't even shown!

I wouldn't say that. I just don't think it's a bad movie. Nor do I think Goodfellas is a bad movie. I just don't think it's anywhere near as good as people say it is.

I still don't understand Al Pacino's hair. All the people involved in that movie and everybody was cool with a frickin grey flat top?

I’ve always enjoyed Goodfellas because I really like the characters.

Always felt with the cast in Godfather there was a lot left on the table after them is all.

The movie wasn’t “good”… make no mistake. I’m not apologizing for it.

But I have to believe it would’ve been much better with Robert Duvall instead of George Hamilton. That was an abomination.

I actually did like Andy Garcia in his role though. I know, I know… sorry

Pay Duvall his money and cast a real actress as the daughter and you have a great movie.

Many stupid things about GF3 but if you don't compare it to the first 2 it's not bad. Too me maybe the worst thing about 3 is how Connie has become like an underboss practically. Al Neri playing Zaza is one thing but Connie giving the ok?

they turned Michael into a whiny pussy. I hate it and don't understand the people who like it.

People hate Sofia Coppola but I thought Andy Garcia and Talia Shire was even worse. They are supposed to be good actors and they were over the top campy.

Pure crap.

I thought they were good, yes.

But never been that big of a fan of Pacino and his over acting at times.

Pacino wasn’t really over the top Pacino in GF1/2.

The first two are absolute peak cinema. Even with the “Coda” recut, I have no desire to ever watch 3 again.
