Lawyer from Lafayette, article from WWL
Ray Mouton, a Lafayette attorney whose work helped crack open the Catholic Church’s long-hidden clergy sexual abuse crisis, died Thursday morning at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 78.
Mouton’s path to becoming one of the earliest and most influential figures in exposing systemic abuse inside the Church was deeply personal — and professionally paradoxical. In the 1980s, he was hired by the Diocese of Lafayette to defend Gilbert Gauthe, a priest charged with raping children.

Mouton is a pretty powerful last name in Lafayette and is usually associated with the justice system or law enforcement.

Coincidentally it was just announced today that a New Orleans grand jury just indicted a former catholic priest on charges of aggravated rape of a child; raping a person suffering from a physical disability preventing resistance; two counts of molesting a juvenile; another three of indecent behavior with a minor; and kidnapping. He met the boy after the boy need grief counseling following the death of two close family members.

Was friends with 3. Brothers that were all molested at their church in abbeville. All were and are permanently screwed up but very good guys.
J Minos Simon was primary on all of those cases if I member correctly.

I was lucky to enjoy a fantastic dinner with him among other friends during the running of the bulls in Pamplona one year. He had a vast knowledge of the subject and provided some interesting insights. He actually wrote a great book about Pamplona/San Fermin/running of the bulls for those who might be interested: amazon

a dozen altar boys (age 8 to 14) were sexually abused by Rev Morvant in St. Martinville in the 1970's... several were represented by Tony Fontana. Morvant died 20 yrs ago and is buried on the church grounds which is a disgrace to all involved and the community.
