Baton Rouge Cats-Fraud at home

This BR area transportation company known as CATS is just as fraudulent as the Somalian day care centers in MN. Their yearly budget is $48M and their rider revenue is $1,115,000 with total revenue being $2M including $500,000 for advertising on the buses. Trial lawyer ads mostly. Visit www.brcats and look at their budget.
There are roughly $30M IN LOCAL TAX revenues, $8M federal dollars and another $10M in infrastructure revenues. Most of the local revenue is from property taxes. My property tax bill includes about $700 for CATS.
Today in the Advocate a former Metro Councilman Cleveland Dunn, Jr. has been indicted for stealing $50,000 from CATS for consulting services. All of the board members of CATS are black and if you drive around and look at the deplorable conditions of the bus stops you have to feel sorry for any body who actually rides the buses.
The game plan has been replicated all over the country, Get the funds to help the poor disadvantaged people, shame the people who can afford to pay taxes, steal 75% of the money by employing family members and generate consulting and professional fees for your friends. Some limited value is delivered to those who actually need the services. It’s an organized industry and it’s all fraud with no shame to those who steal the money and deny quality service.
At $1.75 per ride as charged by CATS the $48M budget costs the public about $70 per ride using the $1.15M rider revenue figure. We as a community have to root out this fraud and get some common sense back in play. This is going on all over our country. The fraudsters could care less about the poor and disadvantaged and are rather preying on them and the gullible tax payers. This has to stop. We have to pay more attention. We could buy all the legitimate CATS riders UBER or Lyft accounts that way the ride would be dependable, safe and on time. We would probably save $30M. $25/ride vs. $70.

Based on the reported composition of CATS’ Board….corruption and fraud would be SHOCKING!

When they held the CATS tax election weren’t they talking about a 20 million dollar a year budget? Now it’s 40 plus!!!
Isn’t ridership relatively flat?

Numbers may be flat but their ridership looks pretty fricking round.

Look it up. Www.brcats.com. $48,743,820. Rider fees $1,1115,000. Total Revenue $2,016,000 includes ads on buses.
Can’t find a total number of rides. My best estimate is 700,000 rides. Likely inflated. Cost to taxpayers about $70 per ride. Look at your property tax bill. Write your councilman. Write Mayor Edwards. Total tax money is over $40M in subsidies. Worst part is if a needy person has to rely on this service they’ll probably never be on time for their job if they are taking the bus to work.
This is just a small example of the waste fraud and abuse of poor people. It’s disgusting and if we don’t scream about it nothing will happen.

You have to feel sorry for this lady. She says missed doctor’s appointments, losing jobs. I can only imagine having to depend on CATS to get me to the place on time. This type fraud hurts the people it was intended to help. Get a simple plan of using ride share services. If a rider keeps a job or makes it to the doctor on time what’s that worth for the greater good? So we subsidize the ride share to some extent. What’s that worth if a person can show up for work, keep that job and hopefully improve their quality of life? Right now the riders get a cheap ride but can’t depend on when it will get them where they are going and it costs the tax payers $40M in Baton Rouge.
These frauds are taking good available tax money and enriching criminals at the expense of people just like this young lady. It’s immoral and criminal. Write the mayor.

I’m not tech savvy. Post the link if you know how. The salaries and benefits are $19,728,050 for the 2025 budget year. Sounds like an employment agency for votes to me. How many dependable ride shares can we buy for $20M a year? At least the people can get where they need to go, maybe keep a job they can pay some taxes on and be a contributor to society. The fraud keeps the poorest down.

LOL. What did you expect from an organization that recently wouldn’t fire one of their higher ups for failing 2 drug tests for meth?

Baton Rouge is better than this. Our less fortunate that need transportation deserve better. The taxpayers deserve better. The bar has been set too damn low.

This has become quite a successful business model for some. They know they can play the race card (or can say "you're denying services to the less fortunate") if they're called-out, questioned, or criticized.
