I most likely won't make fans with this post but I'm doing it anyway.

*Keep Olave without overpaying.
*Don't overpay for Alonte, Sanker can play his roll and is a better tackler.
*Sounds like DD is going to be asking for too much, I'd rather throw more money @ Quay Walker and start building around younger players.
*Give Cam enough to keep him happy another year.
*Keep Luke Fortner on the team & sign a FA guard
*Try to trade McCoy & Ruiz
*Don't overpay or trade for a wide receiver. Let the young ones and a draft pick at the position grow into the system (Polk, Palmer, Means, Alford.
*Find a reasonable priced guard and cornerback in FA.
*Draft BPA with every pick.

I would definitely not keep both Davis and Jordan
You need to get younger at both spots

It's time to move on from Ruiz as well

Hopefully one of Palmer and Polk emerges at WR and Vele gets more reps as well

I would likely move on from Alonte too

Why would you "Give Cam enough to keep him happy another year.", but not have a similar mindset for DD?

Demario has played over 97% of the defensive snaps since 2020, and has been effective each year.

Cam wants to get paid more (justifiably so), but is being asked to do less. Played 54% of the defensive snaps last year (48% in 2024).

You can only do BPA every round if all your holes are filled in FAs. Nothing much crazy I see but trading McCoy when his value is so low versus the value of him healthy and available is a no go.

He’s under contract, we don’t have to do anything.

So Sanker can play nickel corner now? Pretty sure he’s been a safety his entire college career.

Jordan, Taysom and Davis all have a dead cap charge of 12-18 million, regardless of if they play. If we were bottoming out, you let all 3 go. If you are trying to compete next year, you probably resign one or two of them.

You need to look at DD more in the line of can I eat the 12 million and replace him with someone similar. If the answer is no, you sign him to a 2 year deal and break that cap hit up

What the advantage be of letting Davis, Jordan, or Hill go if you’re taking the dead cap anyway? Of course, I get reading them but is there an advantage to cutting them?

Get younger guys the playing time. Id be inclined to keep Davis but if he wants to go keep Jordan. Hill should be gone regardless

No cutting them, none of them are under contract. When you see that $$$ tied to their cap number, it’s void money from pushing bonus money down the road (kicking the can). In order to keep them, you’d have to extend them before mid-March. Which means a signing bonus, decent salary, and a portion of that dead money. Plus, you still have to eventually realize those funds

I am hoping to keep DD and Cam. Saints had the 9th ranked defense last year, and felt top 5 once Young was healthy and the offense was atleast mediocre.

Then draft at least one of their replacements in Bain or Reese.

Ah, I see. So the (or really “one of the”) question(s) is whether to take the hit now or restructure, which likely leads to a hit later.

The cap is clean after this season, so re-signing allows you to get production out of them, saves cap space and pushes dead money off to when the cap goes up. It’s a win win

Not really true and when teams try to fill needs over picking the best players is when they string together multiple years of poor drafting which sets their franchise back years.

We played alot of bad teams last year. The good ones blew the doors off us and had backups playing in the 4th.

We hung with Frisco, we hung with Buffalo (if you watched) we hung with N.E.. All playoff teams. One doing really well. Bears didn't blow us out. It was indeed a season of two halves but for more reasons than you ascribe.
