The company I’ve had a contract with for the last 25 years treats by trenching around foundation and applying Thermidor poison. They retreat every 5 years at a cost of $1,000 and do an annual inspection for $120/year. I got an email recently saying it’s time to retreat. I’m thinking of going with the bait traps instead. I think the bait traps cost about $1,000 to install and they inspect them annually. You can also buy them and install yourself for around $500. What do most people use now, trenching and poison or traps? Any info is appreciated.

I use what you use. But the treat very 10 years with an annual inspection. Same sort of rate, maybe a little cheaper. One hour labor a year to walk around the house and inspect/ touch up. I hear many people DIY but for me it’s always been easier to just pay thee guys. Baton Rouge Pest Control is who I use.

Do yourself a huge favor and read the contract line by line.

My bond came up for renewal and the new contract specifically said that the company was not liable for repairing any damage from any infestation.

I use the bait. The first year they were installed the termites ate one. That was twelve years ago and they have never fooled with one again.

My entire house is made of wood and about a century old. I have a J&J contract with all the traps and other bullshite. They come once a year and "treat" with something.

I also douche the whole yard and house with Bifen XTS once a month when its warm and every other month in our 3 months of winter. No Issues as of yet.

Yep. Everyone thinks their "termite contract" is insurance in case of infestation. It's not.

Yep. It's another Louisiana scam.

Yep. When I was offered one it basically said you guarantee to pay them every year for them to come out and inspect and treat if they think it’s necessary. Didn’t read far enough to see if they charged extra if they put out chemicals, but I’m sure you do.
Hard to come up with a more one-sided contract.

State issued contracts do NOT have a damage warranty. Only a retreat warranty. Too many factors are out of the termite company’s control to warrant a damage guarantee. You could have structural issues in areas that are conducive to attract termites that are out of the termite company’s control. (ie. Cracks under the slab, roof leaks causing an aerial infestation, faulty plumbing, having soil above grade, wood to ground contact, vegetation touching structure, and so on.

Termite companies treat what they can according to the label, and to the best of their ability, but you are never guaranteed 100% protection. They do inspections, refill baits if applicable and also go over with the homeowner conditions conducive to termites. These recommendations are given to the homeowner to correct these actions in order to reduce the chances of termites.

Too many risk factors are out of their control to offer a damage warranty. No termite companies would be in business. Especially for only charging an annual renewal for only $200-$300 a year. After labor and materials you ain’t making much of a profit.

Go to domyown.com You will find what you need.

Use Bora-Care to spray your wood. Use Taurus SC to trench around your house. They sell bait traps as well.

Lots of DIY videos on youtube to help you along.
