The United ?States is planning to inject $1.6 billion into Oklahoma-based miner USA Rare Earth and will receive a 10% stake in the company, the Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The government investment and a separate $1 billion private financing deal ?are slated to be announced on Monday, the report said.
The ?White House and USA Rare Earth did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Not sure I disagree with the idea. But not sure I like the idea of picking winners and losers.
Things like rare earth metals if that vital should just be taken over by the govt.
Then this half attempt of acting like it's a free market

A 1.6b investment for 10% of a company that has a $3.3b market cap and an EPS of negative $10/sh …what am I missing here?

There is a huge emphasis on rare earth minerals from this administration. Cost and present value be damned.
When the Greenland deal comes to fruition I wonder how much the government will have to subsidize private companies for the extraction?

I think he means why THAT company. I wonder which executive there is connected to the administration. You can't tell me there isn't another company with more sound financials we could have gotten in bed with since we're in the business of picking winners and losers.
It's either that or we're just throwing money into the wind propping up losers.

This administration isn't fricking around about breaking the reliance on Eastern materials and supplies.
It's a slippery slope but looks like it has to be done.

The USA invading Greenland and having NATO Article 5 invoked against us.
That was a talking point 2 weeks ago, maybe you missed it.
In reality, what everyone else said. There is a push to not rely in China, and that is a good thing.
