Evolution is fake news.
Penis size comes down to genetics and not evolution. If it were an evolutionary trait, none of us would feel inadequate as we'd all have big dicks.

I haven’t read the study, but I have read studies that tested if women knew what a big penis actually looked like. The answer was no. They consistently selected average to slightly below average penises as ones they had ever seen or experienced in person. They also consistently mislabeled penises based on assumed measurement. So for example, they’d select a 6 in dildo thinking it was 7.
However, they did mostly select slightly above average penises as ones they would most prefer.
