- The post accurately reports on a bipartisan FY2026 spending bill that flat-funds key Department of Education programs like Pell Grants at Biden-era levels, directly countering Trump's May 2025 budget proposal to eliminate the agency entirely.
- This congressional move, detailed in recent Education Week and NASFAA reports, includes provisions blocking fund transfers to other agencies, highlighting tensions between executive goals and legislative priorities in a divided government.
- Historically, similar rebukes occurred in Trump's first term when Congress preserved DOE funding despite abolition pledges, underscoring the department's entrenched role in federal student aid programs serving over 40 million recipients annually.
It’ll probably be vetoed

There’s a big difference between funding the grant program and getting rid of the arm that controls k-12.

It's as if they comment on politics without understanding politics at all. Oh wait, no that's the exact scenario

Funding is reportedly headed back to Planned Parenthood as well.

You mean the House and Senate never cut anything and it’s just business as usual?! The Republican Party is a complete joke and it’s why they are losers without Trump

Mike Johnson was on TV praising the work on these spending bills.
IMO, this was done with Trump's consent. They did not want this to be an issue during mid terms.
We should have cut spending with the BBB. That was our opportunity.

Correct. Some of us made this point in real time and were accused of TDS.
Also, some of us made the point that admin cuts or pointing out "fraud" meant nothing if the money was still allocated by Congress during the DOGE hype/hysteria, and were accused of TDS.
As is almost always the case "some of us" were proven to be right.

The GOP will lose the mid-terms badly because... no one believes they are anything more than a corrupt hoard of corporate bought thieves.

I don’t know what you are yammering about but nothing of substance passed Congress in terms of cuts so what would suggest happens with a completely useless Republican Party? Where is your super hip populism quote you love to throw out?! Unless Susan Collins and several other Republicans are now diehard MAGA?? You know the usuals who opposed any spending cuts whatsoever lol
