Massie and “DEFUNDING” ICE; Facts Vs. Rhetoric…

Seven Democrats Defy Party To Fund ICE…
Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie — a fiscal hawk facing a primary challenger backed by President Donald Trump — was the lone Republican to vote against the DHS spending bill funding ICE, the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) among other agencies.
For clarification, the bill Massie voted against was NOT a standalone bill on ICE funding as stated elsewhere on this forum. As indicated in the article above, the provision on funding ICE was part a larger DHS appropriations bill:
…The DHS bill will be bundled alongside three other spending bills, totaling a combined $1.2 trillion in federal spending. The entire package’s passing is a significant step toward averting a government shutdown come Jan. 30.
Lawmakers in the House of Representatives voted on two separate packages on Thursday afternoon. One groups together three spending bills to fund the departments of War, Education, Labor, Transportation and Health and Human Services. The second is a standalone bill funding DHS, which includes ICE.
Massie voted against this bill for the same reason he has opposed countless other omnibus and large appropriation bills under both parties. What Massie opposes is how Congress regularly funds Federal agencies, not on whether ICE should be funded.
Massie consistently objects to massive, bundled spending packages that contain unchecked federal outlays. That’s not a sudden alignment with Democrats; it’s a long-standing, clearly articulated philosophical position by Massie.
Stating that Massie’s opposed funding ICE is grossly misleading. If you want to criticize Massie for prioritizing philosophical principle over political pragmatism, that’s a legitimate criticism and a fair debate.
So if you’re going to criticize Massie — criticize him honestly — not with a drive-by talking point that ignores the reasons behind Massie’s votes. Now, DV away: yet at least be honest on why you are downvoting.

Why is irrelevant.

I downvoted because you’re an idiot. Is that honest enough?

He’s just another useless RINO among many that fights against the leader of the party.
Not sure why he’s singled out, probably because he’s more vocal about his anti Trump agenda.

Same people that bitch about the Uniparty will be here to shite on the guy voting against them. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

With or without his vote it was going to pass. He could have just gone the Tim Burchett route and said "yeah, we passed this and I'm pissed about it, but here's the good and the bad- and the reasons why I voted along party lines."
Instead, he chose to once again not stand with his party, and play the "rebel" role again to give the Liberals the "bipartisan" talking point that they love so much.
While I understand your point, I feel it important to note that when it actually matters the most, Massie becomes a huge pain in the arse, every time. And when his vote doesn't really matter, he seems to just want the drama.

So brave, so principled when he knew his vote wouldn't matter but he could still grandstand.

Pretty sure he votes with his party 90+% of the time.

That doesn't tell the whole story, though. When the vote happens, what the vote is about, and if his vote ends up being a deciding factor- those are the things to look at.
For example, on paper my Senator JD Lankford appears to be a solid Republican when in fact he is a deep swamper when you layer and juxtapose the "what, when, where, why and how" of it all.

Voting against massive spending bills is as conservative as it gets, and Republicans are not fiscal conservatives, so you might have a point.

It would be funny if it didn’t help the liberals

That is a fair criticism. And I myself have criticized Massie for similar reasons myself.

Yeah we get it, he has a high horse he wants to sit on top of to prove a point…to the potential detriment of our country.
frick him, take this up separately by putting together a coalition to actually do something about it.

let me help you understand something jethrine, no amount of your fluffing is going rehabilitate massie as far as this board is concerned he has been weighed, measured and found wanting. you're humiliating yourself, he11 son i'm embarrassed for you!
Posted on 1/23/26 at 5:15 pm to Toomer Deplorable
The shills don't want to read the whole bill. They just want the anti-Massie talking points so they don't have to think about anything.

I certainly hold no illusions about changing the opinions of the know-nothing contingent on this board. With that said, your “jethrine” sobriquet is certainly more interesting than simply calling me an idiot. It without doubt is a very low bar, but I’m seasonably impressed that you actually showed a modicum of creativity in your reply.
