In preparation of this weekend’s southern snow/ice apocalypse, AKA, white death, please give me some recommendations on tire chains. If you’ve found something other than the old school chains, that would be great.

For the first time in years, i find myself without a 4x4. I realize my OT baller status will be revoked due to this.

I intend to l, but got hardheaded elderly relatives in different directions. Plus kids in the medical and cyber fields.

Honestly man, depending on where you are in the snow/sleet band, if you don't have a capable 4x4/AWD vehicle, you shouldn't be out on the roads.

i recommend you go ahead & run it in 4L now to make sure there are no surprises so you'll have time to get it fixed.

Then you don’t need to be out in. Not to be harsh.

If you’re in the portion getting ice, the tire chains won’t matter much.

Supposed to ice here, not driving in that shite even if I had studded snow tires. People that do try to drive around here will just get stuck and create road blocks anyway. Have what I need in case of power outage and extra food/water for the pets.

When we got hit with ice last Feb? in Houston, the amount of people barreling by me, including over iced bridges, at 70+ on I-10 was unbelievable (I have AWD, but was still watching for ice.) They were almost to a person in 2wd vehicles, including trucks, not a care in the world.

Chains don't work for shite on ice.

Nobody can drive on ice. Don't even try

Now snow, I can drive in that fine, my dad(RIP), who was from Western PA, taught me well but it is a skill

If you hit ice at speed it doesn’t matter if your running tank treads. You’re in Gods hands at that point.

Yep

And if you're dumb enough to drive on it at speed, you deserve what happens to you

I will take a few days inside with the family while I work for snow, but I'm really hoping it's not going to be rough. I'm going to sound like a Minnesota hippie right now, but no ICE.

It’s all in the tires man. Good tread on all weather tires and go nice and easy anywhere you need to go other than ice sheets, 6” of snow or any kind of mud/off road. Maybe some sand for the driveway.
