That game against Oklahoma @ UNO was insane. I still had in on video tape, until Katrina drowned it. Jose was on fire.

Jose had this one dunk that he called the "Cobra Dunk". I don't think he ever did it in a game, but he would do it while goofing around, or in practice. Imagine your elbow pointed at the goal, with your wrist up by your forehead. Then, he would kinda stab the ball through the hoop and quickly pull his hand back... like a cobra strike. It was funny.

His in-game dunks were fierce, and they were as momentum-inspiring as Shaq's were. The Assembly Center would ERUPT.

I nailed Will Perdue in the grape with a balled up newspaper in the Assembly Center ca. 1987. Me and my two buddies brought a roll of masking tape to the Vandy game and each covertly made about five tight newspaper balls. When the time came – as most of the papers from the student section were gently floating down to the floor – about half of our projectiles rained down directly on the Vandy bench. They weren’t very happy.

We brought the tape to the next game but there was a significant increase in the number of folks watching over the student section that day and we decided to wuss out.

Actually, I have no way to know that I hit big Will…but I’d like to think I did.

Lionel Green and Al Green! They are part of my first memories of Dale ball. Cook, Macklin, Scales, Martin same era. Al Green could throw down. The Assembly Center was always rocking.

Oh, I loved the uniforms too. The stars on the shorts. Script letters. I vote for retro look for a few games. Todays uniforms are alright, but lack flair. Not a fan of Geaux Font.

He used to be called "Jose the Hackmaster" when he would come to AU to play. He was a bad arse....I remember Dale Brown telling him during one timeout "if you get the ball, DO NOT SHOOT".

Thanks for the memories! My favorite BB player interview had to be one with Shawn Griggs and Jordy (I think). I remember being in my friend's apartment ready to watch the game, he was a bit of a newbie to LSU basketball but my other friends and I were willing to work with him because he had a nice TV!! So we are sitting there listening(?) to Shawn Griggs and Jordy in the pre-game interview when I notice a look of puzzlement on my friend's face. Before I can say anything, he raises off the couch, strides over to his TV and smacks the cabinet a coupla of times to "tune"? it better. My friends and I started laughing so hard we couldn't catch our breath to tell him that that it was a 'Shawn Griggs' thing and his set was ok!

WOW, good times. That guy was a freak on the defensive end. I think he may still hold the conference record for steals in a game!

Don't remember the game but it was a timeout with the TV getting what was going on. Dale tells him not to shoot

He was doing some chip commercial in BR after he was done playing. At the end of the commercial he would say "no way Jose".
