Had the day off yesterday for MLK Day and was bored given that I was hungover and it was 35 degrees outside, so I decided to go see the new Greenland sequel. The advertised start time was 3:30. I figured I'd be good if I rolled in at around 3:45 or so.

The previews and ads for AMC lasted until 4:20. That's 50 minutes of ads for a movie with an advertised screen time of 1:40.

I get that theaters nowadays have to find any source of revenue they can, but why not schedule a brief intermission to let people go to the bathroom, refill drinks/popcorn, etc? That would be a welcome change as opposed to 45 minutes of opening previews.

Greenland: Migration was terrible by the way.

Was the movie playing on two different screens and you went into the wrong one?

Absolutely terrible. That’s crazy. 10-15 minutes should be the max.

Theaters have to make money because the studios distributors frick them on box office sales (thus why concession prices are so high) AND Hollywood has been putting out a lot of dreck into the theaters for the last decade or so.

Low attendance + low profits from tickets = revenue generation from other avenues.

We have gone to the movies twice in the last year. The first was to see the Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii re-release last spring. There were no previews at all, and we actually missed the first 10 minutes because we were running late from out of town and assumed there would be.

The second was Wicked 2 a couple weeks ago (wife's choice), and when I bought the tickets online there was a pop-up notice that there would be approximately 35 minutes of ads and previews at the start time, so plan accordingly. I thought that was pretty cool.

I went to the theater on Sunday and it took almost 25 minutes for the movie to start, and I thought that was ridiculous. I'm not sure I believe 50 minutes.

Hey dumbass, AMC tells you before you book a ticket that the movie doesn’t start for 25-30 minutes

I call BS. I've been to many movies the past year at AMC and never experienced this. No way the movie began 50 minutes after the start time.

took my daughter to see the Spongebob movie yesterday. It was 30 min of previews and then a 15 min short film about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So 45 min until the actual movie started

My wife and kid went to see the Minecraft movie over the summer, and she said it was literally 45 minutes of commercials. I haven't been to a movie since the Mario movie came out, and I remember a lot of commercial but not 45 minutes of it.

Yes, during the short film I walked out to confirm we were in the right theater.
