A Marx quote : Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.
The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo.

Religion was helpful then in that people relied on it to tolerate the insufferable. Now, it's used to reinforce the ego with platitudes.

Marxist thought simply substitutes the state for religion. People will still worship and idolize things.

Christianity is true, as the historical Jesus rose from the dead to show His teaching as the God-man is right, that only through Him can man be saved from their sins.
Marx rejected the truth and tried to substitute it with an ideology that can only produce suffering and death.

Marx did admire Islam, though, for its anti-western sentiment. Kind of reveals his true motives.
