FAT FEMALES

For a Friday night crab boil in Point Au Chien, we needed 3 bushels of number 1 crabs. It's been awhile since I have gone on a crab hunt and there is a new to me signage. The signs now indicate a choice exist exist between males and female crabs with the signs emphasizing FAT FEMALE CRABS. There is a real difference looking at the FAT. Females are dense orange fatted, and males are more off white and softer fatted. Both are great.

The hunt took multiple stops as the cold fronts have really dropped the tides out of the bayous and lots of water bottom is visible. Price was 90-120 dollars a bushel. We were successful, had to add in about 3/4 bushels of #2 crabs. The group of 25 pax had a great feed, adding in lots of hogs head cheese, andouille sausage, beer and bourbon.

The crawfish farms along I-10 had about a dozen boats active as we headed back to texas saturday
