Hotter in glasses & ponytail!

I always liked when she eyed Bogey up and down like he was a pork chop when she described Geiger as “fattish”. She was definitely DTF.

I don't know much about Dorothy but she was a doll back in the day.

Great scene. I am a fan of Dorothy Malone. She was in several good westerns, including South of St. Louis and Colorado Territory (both with Joel McCrea), and The Nevadan (with Randolph Scott). What a beauty she was, and a fine actress.

Absolute classic! The way they play off each other is brilliant. She is a gem in his scene. Might be my favorite scene of this movie, and it’s one of my all time favorite movies and books.

Burt Reynolds stole this scene in the movie "Shamus". Of course he had sex with the bookstore girl.

Introduces himself as a "private dick," gets her loosened up with rye, does god knows what to her in the back room, then pats her on the arm and says, "So long, pal."

considering that came shortly after he told her he was a private dick

Not a librarian, but a bookstore employee.
And I agree with ColonelAngus, prefer her with the glasses/ponytail. But that's just me.

I just watched it some years ago, cold. Because it checked a bunch of boxes. It was a Howard Hawks and Bogey/Becall film I hadn't seen. I had read the book in college.
Bogey was great in this. And the scene you've nominated knocked me out. Of course you watch this scene and see how influential the specific scene is on subsequent films. Detective films AND rom coms have aped that scene ever since.
10/10 (obviously)

She had a good run - made it to 10 days shy of 94 years. In her 40s, more or less held down Peyton Place (I think only Ed Nelson appeared in more episodes) as a series. Did mainly TV from the late 50s onward. Acted until her late 60s, with Basic Instinct (1992) as her last feature film appearance.

I'm surprised that they let her wear heels in that scene. She was shorter than Bogie in real life.

I like Bogart, but sometimes the way he rifles through his lines annoys the shite out of me. It's like he's trying to say them as fast as he can, to the point where he sounds like a machine and not a human with any emotion.

“I’d rather get wet in here.” Shot, score.
