What many fail to see about the QB position.

1. QUALITY depth beyond a good 1 and an ok #2 is unrealistic in 2026.
2. You dont rotate QBs in 2026.
3. You don't grab guys out of the portal for potential.
I keep seeing posts on here as though QBs are like.. a pitcher rotation or something.
The QB touches the ball every down on offense. They are the leader of the team. You don't pick a guy up because he sounds like he might "match the scheme."
Those things dont exist anymore. Every single year, all of the top programs will be poaching the best QB they can find... and if a school as two of them, you better damn well believe one of them will be going somewhere else to start.
So -- in that regard -- if you want to win championships here, then you have to understand what LSU is doing. They are going for the absolute best QB they can find. This is vital. You don't have teams loaded with 5* lineman and backs anymore and just go get a "game manager."
You can not build rosters this way anymore. It is an arms race for the QB.
These 4 and 5 * freshman that are transfering out, want to start. They aren't going to come here for any amount of money and play backup and if they do, IF THEY DO, it'll be for 1 year before we are back in this position.
Leavitt is the best QB on the board. You gotta go for him. If you don't... then you go for the next best thing, but this whole "build your roster" narrative like ... like its 2019 still... like maybe they'll become something in a couple of years like a diamond in the rough.. this mentality no longer exists.
Boosters are forking up MILLIONS and MILLIONS to try and keep the school competitive. THe game has changed.

We are over 40 scholarship players shy of having the full 105 man roster. There’s absolutely no way you come close to filling that out without taking some players just for depth and practice bodies. You need 3 QBs and I think we’ll get 3. Yes if we get to the third string qb the season is probably toast, but just for practice you need arms to throw to receivers and get love reps. I’ve said it before, there’s a lot more to a good team than just what you see getting PT on Saturdays.

We still need 3 QBs. Yeah, I expect there to be a decent drop-off between 1 and 2, but we've got to sign 3.

You do realize there are multiple redshirt freshmen QBs who excelled this season who sat behind a starter in year one, right? We had a guy who started multiple SEC games as a true freshman due to injury come to LSU knowing he would be a backup. It’s situational and based on the quality of evaluation.

Plenty of teams have quality QB 2s. I do think the days of huge contracts for HS 5 stars is coming to an end. It’s gonna be here’s 100k (just throwing a number) we’ll really see what you can do then next year we’ll adjust that contract. Teams are more looking for experience and paying accordingly.

For the millionth time, you don’t HAVE to fill all 105 spots. You probably shouldn’t and mostly can’t. The more players, the more money you have to spend.
That doesn’t mean that you should or shouldn’t have more than 85. You just don’t have to

3 things you can just live by at this point:
1. LSU will sign as many good QBs that want to play at LSU. The spirit of your post is correct, but it is wrong.
2. Regardless of how comfy you are (ie Nuss), QB evaluations have to happen every year based on what is available in the portal.
3. HS QBs have little to no value.

I’m not sure where I said in my reply that you HAVE to get to the 105, but we’re not even to the previous 82 man yet! The law of averages tell you the more players you have, the more chances you have for a hidden gem to pop up and surprise you!

not sure I agree with what you are saying, but I do believe every season is all in now. you try to win now and worry about another season later.
i don't agree with people saying another season is a rebuild or the offensive line is too bad. you go fix it now.

Quality backups become starters on numerous teams every year. EVERY year!

Agreed, even if you play guys as freshman most still hit the portal. Building roster depth is a thing of the past unless you hit on 3 star guys. Every season is a win now mode, no such thing as rebuilding and letting the young guys play.

if Leavitt comes, LSU has two things going for them when it comes to getting two good QBs:
1. his injury.. possibility he reinjures or isnt ready in september
2. learning under kiffin
i expect them to get two good ones. from what im reading, clark and leavitt.
may get clark regardless.
a third qb wouldn't be too hard i wouldnt think... just a decent/serviceable back up rom small time or juco that is ok with being a practice qb

Because we can have 105 doesn’t mean we want 195. You do realize we did not even have 85 players play a snap last year I believe the actual number was 81 different players had at least on play last season.
