Minneapolis public school students now allowed to "learn from home" for the next month

This is "breaking", so not many details, but:
As we all know, remote learning had wonderful results throughout Covid. I'm sure that it will work out just as well this time.
This is almost certainly being done because the teacher's union (sincerely) wants to help kids whose families are here illegally while the ICE presence increases. I know of a NOLA metro public school that has been missing ~17% of its students ever since ICE came to town, and it's probably similar (if not worse) in parts of Minneapolis. The teacher's unions 99% of the time are selfish as frick, but this probably will result in more work for them if they're still dealing with in-person teaching, so this is more of an ideological decision than a "I want to work less" one.

MPS offering E-learning through Feb. 12
What they're saying:
Marcia Howard, the President of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, posted to social media Thursday night students are being given the option to learn from home through Reb. 12. She says the teachers’ federation brought the idea to the school district.
Typically, learning from home is offered only the event of weather.
"MPS is going to be offering an option for students to learn from home until February 12. This is an OPTION and exactly what so many families need right now. MFE members brought this to MPS and MPS listened. Let’s stay strong together Minneapolis," Howard said.

Perfect for ICE to get the whole family.
Plus now the kids have a far worse education...
What could go wrong.

It's going to require a massive percentage of illegals in a class for the teachers to be able to pull that off. That's why, unlike Covid (which the unions used for both political AND monetary/laziness purposes), I think that this one is mostly political. To be fair, knowing how public school faculty can be, they may pull off a situation where they say "Well, only 40% of the class is showing up in person, so we're ONLY going to be providing online classes."

It's to mobilize their army. The teachers are the protesters.

Yep. The teachers are the mad Marxist agitators. They have a city to burn down.

Well, I’m no expert but don’t the schools get funding based on how many kids are enrolled? So if 20%!of kids get deported then the schools would lose 20%!of funding. And some teachers would get laid off .
So really there are being selfish as per usual

Would've never guessed Somalians have enough representation in Minnesota, but the MPS calendar is available in Soomaali.
Went looking for this because my guess was that they set that date because it would go into a February school vacation week, so they're pretty much doing frick it/stay home for a month and a half.

I didn't think of that. Great point.
On the same note, Walz once boasted about the diversity of Minneapolis schools, and proudly said that one school had 10-15 languages spoken in it (what a shitshow). It wouldn't take many kids being deported to make some of those teachers/translators unnecessary.

Jesus.Christ. That many languages in one school is insane.
