…and get great production. Theoretically that should allow us to go HAM on paying for big uglies. I love that he has a big war chest but still seems to be using it conservatively. We don’t seem to be just throwing big money at stars (except Leavitt, which will be a chunk I’m sure)

Go look at ole Miss recruiting class last year and tell me the big name splash players he got? Spoiler alert, LSU got most of them. And we sucked lol

I do too, but with that said, if that's the philosophy, why come to LSU. You can bring in G5 guys all day at Ole Miss.

Use what LSU can offer to the fullest extent possible IMO

That's high school recruiting. That's only a part of the puzzle amd isn't really in play this year. The whole allure of LSU is that you can nail down top 5 recruiting classes every year and when portal time comes you target the best of the best and fill out your recruiting misses. You're just trying to put together the best class you can at this point. It's a coaching change roster, and you aren't going to get the best 25 from the portal, it jist doesn't happen like that.

If I had to guess, it’s this approach THIS year because he has so much to fill.

Once he’s here a few years and has his roster more aligned, he’ll use all that big toy stuff for the big dogs when it doesn’t have to be spread as much as this year. JMO

You missed my point. My point is that he’s so comfortable in his ability to identify great breakout G5 skill guys and use them effectively in his offense that it frees up funds to target the critical big guys that everyone will be fighting over.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t spend. I’m saying that his talent at finding bargain awesomeness in skill guys only helps us compete even more for the must-haves.
