Just perusing the season results, Iowa took Indiana to the wire and lost by 5.

They did the same to Oregon and lost by 2.

They also manhandled Vandy, a double-digit SEC team.

The data does not lie.

Fascinating shite.

Yea they also took Oregon to the wire as well. They're yet another team that does a lot of what Nebraska used to do with development that we dont do anymore because we are just meant to suck.

They would’ve been in the playoffs if they would’ve beat USC

Maybe. Would also mean Iowa State and Big 12 is awesome since they beat Iowa.

Right. Or Iowa has a neutralizing style and plays up to good teams and down to mid.

Either way, thought it was worth highlighting.

Stylistically, Ferentz seems to espouse the style of “no-style”

Iowa has a tier 1 D that is very hard to prepare for and they typically punch two weights above their offensive class as a result. Iowa is always good, and capable of beating anybody in a single game. They defend the red zone at an elite level, which is something that made me a believer in this Indiana team.

With losses to Iowa State, Oregon and Indiana? How?

The only time I’ve seen an Iowa defense rattled and out of position is when CMC just went absolute god mode in the Rose Bowl

Right. Kinda like vintage Wisconsin teams under Alvarez or Bielema.

Tree stump tough.

No flash.

They were the same team they are every year. They go 8-5 or 9-4 most years with occasional outliers in either direction.

They have some NFL talent but not across the board. They are well coached and play great defense.

That’s Iowa.

They have had NFL talent everywhere except WR and QB over the last 5 years. This guy that they have now is going to get a shot at QB. OL / TE / DL/ LB/ DB—it’s an NFL factory. Few RB, no WR and 1 QB who was a career backup.

They were regular Iowa but with a fairly functional offense for the first time in a decade

Absolutely.

I guess my point is maybe there is something to the approach of being “regular Iowa”

The ability to punch up in class when not in talent-equated games.

Should have lost to a really bad MSU team at home. Same Iowa team you always get. Beat the mid to below average teams, lose to the “better” teams. Only difference is thst they haven’t pulled the Kinnick upset recently.

And a heisman qb

I like Gronk but he is limited

I also think Moulton is good but not special.

What’s impressive about Iowa is how well those linebackers and safeties trigger
