I can kind of see your point vis a vis protection rackets, maybe.
But even in that regard, the federal government is no better than the mob. Taxation is basically one big protection racket.

The corrupt Political Establishment is America's #1 ENEMY. This has been true for at least 7-8 decades. Anybody who laughs at the fact that our very own government killed JFK is a blind fool. JFK wanted to reign in the intelligence agencies. He fired longtime CIA Director Allan Dulles (the very same guy that the crook LBJ placed on the sham Warren Commission).

When I realized that fact is when I stopped holding onto the idea that if we returned the majority of power to the states that it would fix anything.
There's generally even less oversight of state corruption than there is federal. At the federal level you've got CNN and FOX and MSNBC reporting on federal corruption. In my state we've got WSFA out of Montgomery reporting on state corruption.
