How the hell did we miss so badly on any pass rush?

Im sitting here watching bowl games, and literally every game is showcasing elite pass rushers, many of whom were transferred portal players from last year. Do our guys just suck?

Kelly did the same thing Orgeron did at the end of his tenure. He just recruited based on third party evaluations and ratings instead of doing the evaluation himself.
He hit on a few guys to be clear, but the number one ranked transfer portal class was a bust.

Well Reliford was out for most of the year and even though Pyburn did fine, you can look at him and tell he wasn’t very quick or a speedster off the edge to blow by anyone. I figured Payton would’ve caused way more havoc than he did.

I’ve been saying it we had no pass rush, That’s the difference maker. If we can hit on dline in the portal with our dbs it could get scary!

Father in law is an FSU alum and was not sad to see him go. I remember him getting so annoyed about his performance against the run.

Do you not remember how empty the cupboard got on the DL by the time Baker got here? They have been improved over 2023, but we haven’t had a real star up front for a few years. The front 4 hasn’t been able to generate a consistent pass rush vs SEC teams for a while now.
This incoming class should help a lot with that. There are multiple dynamic guys coming onto the DL for next season. And some of the younger guys on this roster like Mathis and Zion should also provide quality depth for a deep interior rotation. We need Reliford to get healthy and a couple of guys via the portal, but we may finally have the talent up front again to start seeing what we expect from an LSU defense.

Payton only looked good at FSU when he played opposite of a truly elite pass rusher.

Alot of its just coaching, and letting the players get lazy.
