Converting my guest bedroom into a home gym. Room is 12 ft. x 13 ft with 9 ft ceilings.
Currently, the floor is carpeted. I am not really interested in ripping carpet up, so looking to lay interlocking rubber tiles over carpet. Anybody every successfully done this? If so, did you use anything to secure tiles?
As far as equipment goes, I have a Peloton bike. Will have a dumbells, a bench, and will add a power rack once I figure out layout and space. Interested in free weight rack or smith machine rack. Any input/ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Poor start.

How thick is the carpet? Doesn’t sound like a great idea to me but what do I know?

Just lay the 3/4 horse stall mats on top of it. You would need to cover it wall to wall, but would probably work great.
That's what most of us use in our garages. Also, if looking for free equipment or real bargains then FB marketplace is your friend. Probably from April on you can start finding deals when New Year's Resolutioners upgrade their equipment or throw in the towel.
If you buy a bench and a barbell then do yourself a favor and go with the buy once cry once method. Rogue Ohio bar and a good Rep adjustable bench. You can also buy a rack that mounts to the wall and folds back flush when not using it if you want to maximize space.

I put in a gym in an upstairs bedroom when my son moved out. I put outdoor carpet over the existing carpet, then used 4 sheets of 3/8" plywood to make an 8x8 platform, alternating direction between layers and topped that with rubber stall mat from Tractor Supply. Put my squat rack on that. Do deadlifts without worrying about dropping weights thru the floor. I do use bumper plates for the deadlifts.

Rip up the carpet. I did it, took just an hour 18-18 room. I ordered from rubber flooring direct. Just give them the dimensions and they send the appropriate tile. That company uses low VOC rubber. Don’t install other mats on top. Installing took just a few hours. Totally worth it. I added a bench, weight rack for dumbells, and a pull up bar with bands. That’s all you need. Don’t skimp on the floor.
