Why's my hotel losing visibility on AI search platforms despite strong SEO?

I’m kinda scratching my head over here. My little boutique hotel has always done great with regular SEO — like, we rank super well on Google. But lately, when people use those AI search things or travel assistants, we barely show up, if at all. I’m worried we’re invisible in the places travelers are actually looking now. I thought strong SEO would carry over, but nope. Anyone else dealing with this? What am I missing, and how do I fix it before bookings dip even more?

AI is going to kill SEO and legacy search in general and it won’t take much longer. Look into GEO advertising (generative engine optimization)

AI the results are based on the dataset it was trained on at that time.

It is inevitable that AI results will be trained to move paid companies to the top, OpenAI (ChatGPT) has already mentioned it, and is working on implementing it into their model.

Toms Hardware OpenAI to start priortizing paid advertising in results

Nobody knows but a beta already rolled out of the ChatGPT with sponsored results a while back, so its clear they are going in house first

Rolled it out last week.
We got an email from them, and began advertising both in the UK and locally in AL.

I can’t figure out the ChatGPT end game. You have

1/4 of the internet suing them for stealing IP seeking compensation
1/4 of the internet actively trying to thwart their bot trawling.
1/4 of the internet doing their own thing hoping for the best.
The last 1/4 of the internet willing to buy visibility.

It sounds like the better business bureau and your Facebook feed had a baby.

We are derailing this thread completely, but feels like with their massive outlays.

They are angling for govt bailouts, because the AI race is too important to fail

As a non-business owner - just a consumer looking for shite - Google sucks now. A quarter of the top of the page is the AI shite, the next half of the page is Sponsered Results, then I get 3 actual results after an assload of scrolling and that's usually reddit and aggregators like yelp, Travelocity, or hotels.com.

I have to go to page 2 before I actually get a business's website. It's absurd.

The publisher lawsuits all complain their traffic fell off a cliff as soon as google added its AI summary. It seems like now you need to optimize SEO, then you need to pay google to boost you.

Next you’ll need to pay OpenAI to boost your results that it pulled from google…which also happens to nullify the efforts you put into the SEO.

Yea. That’s absolutely the way it works now, and will be working in the future.

Has anyone experienced the Google Core Update-apocalypse since last week?

My thread on the Tech board on 12/17

SEO is dead

I have to think it's not sustainable for their ad model. It's shutting off too much of the market and in most areas that sort of monopolization can't be sustained by the few at the top.

What you're facing is going to probably have a backlash

Do you know about when that happened? I noticed my side gigs website orders fell off a cliff like mid year this year.
