Are there any underlying reasons for it besides inflation?

$38 trillion of US debt that will never be paid and global debt of $300 trillion.
The largest buyers of gold since the Financial Meltdown of 2008/2009 has been Central Banks......that should tell you something.
BTW, silver has been on a tear, $75/ounce. Silver was less than $30/ounce a few months ago.
In general, I think a lot of people now understand a monetary system using fiat currency can operate with minimal risk if the institutions who manage the money supply are responsible with their power to conjure money into existence. I think it's obvious a lot of people don't believe there are responsible people managing the various global fiat money supplies.

More advertising by gold trading companies, and an inflation cycle that makes precious metals a better bet than savings/bonds etc.

It'll keep rising as interest rates drop too.
As other posters are saying US debt and Global debt drive this as well.

Are people still having trouble unloading their silver? I was reading not long ago a lot of people couldn’t cash in their silver because of refining back logs.

All driven by the need to produce AI Chips. Elon Musk mentioned he will be forced to build a chip plant to meet needs.
Samsung & Nvidia cannot meet XaI / Tesla / Optimus needs.

Chyna has been buying the most gold. Twofold but related. To reduce their exposure of dollars which they are doing. And buying so much gold will help them pay or back purchasing once they invade Taiwan and West sanctions them. With more gold and less dollars they can get by.
With all the internal political turmoil created by Dems - who are bought off - the Chynese are and have been making so many moves while we deal with woke companies/pols and other BS.
Trump is reinforcing central and south America which is good news. We can’t stop what Chyna is doing but are making more allies and protecting our hemisphere. Chyna can’t project forward yet so we are working to beef it up. Chyna will invade Taiwan at some point and we can’t stop them. Japan is our biggest friend in Asia.

People are starting to figure out they are economic slaves and inflation is a silent method of extraction.

What are you selling? Physical bullion or do you own metal stocks?

The US needs to get its fiscal house in order.
Until it does, you can predict silver and gold to continue to stay elevated.
The DXY is down almost 10% YTD.

The music will stop at some point, you can sit on something tangible or pieces of paper. In a true SHTF situation pieces of metal will be better than paper but not by much. Bullets will be the currency of choice.

Gold and Silver are screaming precisely because, at 38T in debt, many people understand that no matter what the US does, ‘getting its fiscal house in order’ is no longer possible even if leaders wanted to, which they don’t.
It’s math. Moving dollars into gold and silver is moving US currency into a world currency, and punishing the US for this theft of value via inflation

I’m not selling shite, just bought another $10K of junior mining stocks this morning.
I was laughing at the earlier posts about selling.
There is frickery in the silver metal stocks / ETF way more paper than they have actual silver to back it up.
Doubled down on my winners from December ( up 20 % ) in 3 weeks:
NFA - do your own research
