The only way to fix college football...

The P4 teams need to break away from the NCAA. NIL needs to be brought under control. The coaching carousel needs to stop.

I agree with everything but this.
Technically and legally, NIL is just players making their own money on their own time. Yes, we can all see through the bullshite, but you can’t tell an American adult that they can’t make money.
I do think we need more regulation for transfers and coaching contracts. Just do a “black Monday” thing or whatever the NFL does so everyone knows when coaching changes will happen. We pretty much do it with the transfer portal.

So you don’t want any restrictions on NIL for this reason but it’s alright to regulate and restrict the portal and coaches ability to go and work wherever they want to whenever they want to? Do you see the hypocrisy? I do.
Frankly, CFB is out of control and I’m not sure it’s salvageable, especially if you want to get back to what I consider the good old days when players played as student-athletes and we cheered for our Alma maters.

It doesn’t matter what you want. It is a legal ruling that you can’t regulate or restrict NIL.
And yes, it’s hypocrisy, I guess. But there’s nothing in our economic or legal system that forbids hypocrisy based on personal feelings.
The NFL doesn’t allow for its coaches to move jobs whenever they want. That’s because that’s the rule they’ve set for their league and organizations. The NFL cannot tell any player that they can’t make money with side businesses outside of their NFL contract.

That would require the same hypocrisy you recognized in the first paragraph. Why should universities who have mishandled billions over the years creating liberal wastelands of influence get a dime if the players dont? The education myth has long been recognized as what it is, a farce. Those degrees aren't worth shite. Damn sure not worth 100s of millions which universities bring in with football. If they had been more proactive about sharing money maybe the mess wouldnt be as bad as it is currently. Blame the greedy ones, the universities.

Apples and oranges. Nothing in this scenario limits players or coaches from making money through their name, image, or likeness. Saban and Prime were making bank from AFLACK while coaching.
Ultimately, I think there will eventually be contractual obligations for players with exit clauses for both sides like we have with coaches now.

If they stop unlimited transfers NIL wouldn’t be such a problem.
Open free agency every year is the issue

The nfl teams also have the ability to cut players. If a college gives a high school kid a boat load of money based on potential and they turn out to be a bust or even hurt there is no cutting them. Eventually this will all turn contractual.

Exactly. If your top at your position in the country why not go to the portal every year and go to “highest bidder” or have your current school match the offer??

How so?

This isn’t correct. If it was, every owner could very easily circumvent the salary cap.
I guess the NFL can’t prevent them from doing it, but the NFL could absolutely fire them for it. And were college players under employment agreements, they could be deemed ineligible under certain circumstances as well.
Do you, or whatever activist judge who made this ruling, think if an NFL player wanted to do an ad for ISIS, that the NFL shouldn’t be able to take any corrective action?

Yeah no one has ever been arrested and jailed for selling or buying stuff the government doesn’t want them to buy or sell.

If they want to participate within the rules of a private organization, you can. Only in America, courts and the government get to dictate to private organizations what rules and standards they must use.

That's going to happen I would think, in the next 10 years. I won't be shocked if it's by the end of the decade

They actually can, they have contracts, they have collective bargaining so certain things like that can be agreed to by both sides before contracts and the CBA are signed.
Contracts are also why head coaches can’t just leave whenever they want for another job without compensation. Thats why Denver had to give the Saints draft picks to hire Sean Payton, he retired with time left on his contract. Assistants are allowed to leave for promotions of course but after their season ends. You could have language like that in college contracts theoretically but since there are 100s of jobs vs 32 it’s a lot harder to do. Just takes 1 school desperate enough to throw it off.

I completely agree with your position on NIL. But this statement here directly contradicts that. If we are going to practice the capitalistic freedom guaranteed to all fully emancipated Americans, then coaches should continue to be able to pile in the obscene amounts of money they are getting contracts for, and students who are athletes should have exactly and all of the same freedoms to transfer and participate in programs at public institutions that any other student has.
