RIP Boxing

You had a good run, but all good things must come to an end.
A once proud sport is now just a joke for influencers and old MMA fighters to make a payday.
Imagine paying to go to or watch this fight.

Least we know for the most part this fight wasn’t rigged. (Maybe AJ took it a bit easy to make it a fight)

Boxing did this to boxing.
What I am hoping that comes from all of this Jake Paul nonsense is that the best boxers will start fighting each other in their primes.

He definitely took it easy. He could’ve murdered him if he was really boxing

I said in the other thread it’s like using a dead man’s credit card. He’s not coming back, and neither is boxing. Jake Paul is basically thinking why not help himself and rake in some cash from boxing’s corpse?

It's just ridiculous that this is what the sports has become. We literally just watched a dude spend more time on his knees in the ring than actually boxing. Just people chasing paydays, which is fine, but it sucks seeing what its become. At its height, boxing is such a great sport.
I'll give Jake Paul props for taking money from fools. I can't really give him props for fighting AJ, though. I think most people would get their arse whipped by AJ for the amount of money Paul will make off this.

Agree.
That'd be great if that's what it leads to, but I won't hold my breath. It seems too many fighters now are scared to take a loss.

That was completely scripted/joke

That's a good analogy.

The killer of boxing...

This wasn’t boxing. It was a social media event. Jake Paul is a YouTube influencer not a boxer. Boxing isn’t dead. There are still media outlets to watch like DAZN, Proboxtv, among them. It’s lost much of its popularity in the US though.

Oh yeah, this was this first problem we have seen with boxing.
Clean sport until tonight.

Jake was on his bicycle most of 4 Rounds + AJ was rusty due to 15 month lay-off / elbow surgery
When Jake finally engaged some in the 5th; is when he got in trouble ; 3 knock downs
Jake's JAW is Broken ; AJ F### d him up like he said he would.

Yes and no.
AJ obviously understood he needed to dance around and drag Paul through the first few rounds to make a show of it. He started throwing some punches after that, though.
The right he landed for the KO was pretty legit.

Boxing has been a joke for a long time. I watched a lot of boxing in the late 80s, 90s and early 00s but I finally had enough when 2 heavyweights fought and they were BOTH represented by Don King.
At the end of the fight, one guy looked like he had done some mild work at the gym. The other fighter looked like he needed a trip to the hospital.
The half dead dude won.
Larry Merchant and George Foreman were stunned. As George said, that was the best fight MONEY could buy. I had seen fights that I thought they might have been rigged. This was by far the most lopsided fake loss I ever witnessed. The announcers knew it, I knew it. Everyone who watched knew it. I have not watched a single fight since that one.
At least with wrestling you know it is scripted. That fight should have prompted an FBI investigation. Folks should have gone to jail. I don't remember the boxers but it was around 2003 or 2004.

With all the money available even in college sports today, I don’t know why a physically gifted athlete would even consider taking up boxing. And even if someone did want to give it a try, it’s not like boxing gyms and coaches are all over the place. It would take a lot more effort to develop in boxing vs. sports that are common in high schools.

Pretty much every sport I grew up watching has gone to shite. Unemployed influencers with a cell phone are fighting in the main event in boxing. They are college gameday reporters/analysts. Pay for play portal. 12 team watered down glorified new years bowls. NFL isn’t fun anymore. NBA is a joke like the wnba.
