This has been a great rut stand over the years. Saw a buck early, but couldn’t tell much about him in low light

Area 2 public
27° calm
28 nosler
Saddle in a bottom that I like to hunt. Hunted here yesterday evening and had some deer come out after dark while I was packing up. Left my sticks and platform and came jump back up this morning. Brothers left this morning, so I’m flying solo the rest of the week. Unfortunately they didn’t get to kill anything.
Good luck, it’s a beautiful morning

Best of luck to you man.
Do you often return to the same spots to hunt on public if wind permits?

Thank you
Sometimes I do, but I wouldn’t say often. Kind of depends on what I see, and how I feel about the setup. The deer feed on one side of this bottom and bed on the other, so I know it’s just a matter of time before a good one crosses. Plus, yesterday evening they came out just south of me and there’s a slight south wind today. Just one of those situations where it made sense to leave my stuff and come back.
But I do think your best chance of killing a mature buck is on the first sit in an area. I’m not big on pre-scouting a spot. I think it leaves too much scent in the area. But that’s just my thoughts.

Like going scout, finding some sign, continuing to scout/hunt somewhere else that day, and then going back within a couple days to hunt the sign you found. I’m not saying it doesn’t work, but I just feel like a mature buck will come through between scouting and hunting and catch your scent and avoid that spot for a while.
Unless it’s the rut. A doe could always bring one through the area.

Yea I hear ya.
Been seeing some deer on public and that’s a challenge in itself. Now trying to kill one now.

While good shot. Disagree with best, i hu t same stand every yr all season long and kill mature bucks. The rut is the key
