Will start planning a trip for this summer. This will probably be the last time our whole family goes here all together due to kids ages (16, 14, 10). We enjoy hiking, camping, all the outdoors things and going off the beaten path.

SIAP: focus on a specific region such as:
- Seward, Anchorage and Denali
- Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay.
I like the sound of the dome train trip to Denali, and the day cruise excursions to the Kenai Fjords or Glacier Bay.

What are some recommendations for a family with kids these ages?

Drive up the Yukon Hwy from Skagway. Wife and drove up to emerald lake this summer and it was incredible. Glacier Bay was my favorite part of the trip. Juneau was awesome for whale watching tour. If you go whale watching in Juneau get the small boat tour via Harv and Marv where it will likely be just your family vs packed on a boat like sardines with 50 of your closest friends.

If you're really adventurous look into driving up the Dalton Highway. We did that as well. You can rent a cabin in Wiseman, AK and you can't get anymore off the beaten path than this. Its a fun adventure however its pretty scenic but not nearly as scenic as Coastal AK.

Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay. If you decide to hit these three spots consider signing up for an inside passage cruise. We travel HAL this past summer and plan to take our kids next summer on what might be our last family vacation.

For a family with kids those ages, I’d definitely suggest considering an Alaskan cruise, possibly with a short land extension. It’s one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to see multiple regions of Alaska while still having access to hiking, wildlife, glaciers, and unforgettable excursions.

I’ve personally loved my Alaska cruise experience and have booked many for clients in which the feedback has been consistently amazing, especially for families.

If you like the idea of the dome train to Denali, there are great cruise + land options that combine both seamlessly. I am a local travel agent and happy to chat more at 225=921-6669 if you want to explore what might be the best fit.

My family and I (kids age 14 and 11) did an Alaskan cruise last summer. Did an excursion in Skagway that took us into the Yukon Territory. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and we lucked out with perfect weather.
