The Department of Homeland Security is amending its immigration enforcement operations by moving away from raids targeting all illegal immigrants in the U.S. and focusing more on the ones who have committed serious offenses, according to a report.

quote:

Illegal immigrants have been targeted based on characteristics such as ethnicity, accent, language or location, such as being at a Home Depot or a car wash.

Agents will still conduct traffic stop enforcement, but Border Patrol is unlikely to continue grabbing people off the streets, the outlet reported.

The reported change in immigration enforcement comes as support for President Donald Trump's mass deportation policies has tanked in the polls.

I don’t mind this at all, and it’s my opinion that this should have been the way from the beginning.

Illegal and receiving government assistance should be right alongside the blatant criminals

Not at all. To clarify, the criminals should have been the focus from the beginning. I’m talking about violent and economic criminals. Once that is accomplished, shift to the rest who are here illegally. Simply choosing a location that immigrants frequent, then going there and rounding up people has never been a good look.

I think what you're saying is this, the 10-20 million illegals currently in the US need to lay low until Trump 2.0 administration is over. If all these illegals survive the passing summer storm known as OMB they will never be deported from the US and will likely be voting in federal elections too.

I pay a lot of taxes so obviously I disagree with your position.

Not true. Most people would be outraged if the administration wasn’t doing anything. Stop believing the media.

Nope, I stated my opinion in the OP and then clarified. You, and others, are taking what I said and twisting it into your own viewpoint, and that’s not surprising.

Independent thought must be axed in favor of the hive mind these days. I get it, but I’ll continue to think for myself.

Why not both?

Um, "not doing anything" isn't an option being discussed.

The ones sucking up resources are as bad as the criminals, and they all openly hate us. We have no reason to keep them and this is just more bending to leftist whining.

Deport them all.

Trump was very clear on the campaign trail about what he intended to do. He didn’t hold back. IMO, this is the primary issue that put him in the White House. And yes, giving a pass to the so-called non-criminals is effectively doing nothing.

Well this just isn’t true. Granted we have a long way to go. But there have been a lot of deportations. Voluntary and involuntary.

There was flip flopping

Regardless, it was campaign stuff. The reality is clearly not palatable to voters.

Voters don't seem to have problems with targeting criminals and giving the deportees full due process. The issue is those two things aren't happening exclusively and voters are reacting because they do not like targeting non-criminals and being iffy on due process
