Has it ever happened?

I’ll preface this by saying that i don’t believe Lane will do it. I think Lane is here until he retires or gets fired
But has it ever happened where a coach took a head coaching job, then before the season started, he left and took a job somewhere else?

Pretty sure it happened to LSU softball, ironically, she left for Alabama IIRC.

On June 9, 2011, Patrick Murphy announced that he was leaving Alabama to take the head coaching position at rival LSU. Three days later, before signing a contract at LSU, he changed his mind and returned to Alabama— saying Alabama is "where his heart was."

I typed "patrick murphy announced as lsu coach" into Google and AI said that Murphy accepted the LSU softball coaching job on May 18, 2024 after previously backing out of the job in 2011. Did I miss something?

See Alabama softball coach who avcepted LSU job and was publicly announced wearing LSU gear with his staff in tow then 3 days later said it was a mistake and all turned tail and went back to Bama...that's all I got.

Did you read my post? I know Lane isn’t leaving. But this being talked about sparked my interest on the subject and if it’s ever happened before
