I've never understood the meaningless aspect people repeat.

college baseball conference championships aren't even meaningless with its terrible format for pitching rotations.

only 1 team is gonna win a national championship, that doesn't mean everyone else's season was meaningless. If you aren't able to win a national championship a conference championship is something you will remember fondly for a lifetime.

It was the #1 vs #2 teams in the country facing off in prime time. Of course it was the highest rated championship game.

Nobody with a brain ever claimed that Ohio State was not a massive tv draw. The B1G's problem is that nobody is watching the bottom two-thirds of that bloated conference. Meanwhile, the SEC's bottom feeders pull 4+ million viewers on a noon kickoff.

It’s not just about the playoffs.

The conferences are so large now that it’s possible to play a weak in-conference schedule even in a strong conference.

Also, you’re more likely to get weird tiebreaker scenarios like the ACC did this year.

I don't hate it, but it's basically just an expanded playoff.

They would need to be on campus.

Probably been said already but viewership will be just as high, if not higher, when they inevitably change to play-in games
