8.6 Blackout

What's the concensus on the 8.6 Blackout? I'm intrigued but not sure I want to pull the trigger on a round that could wind up strickly a handloader, but it could also blow up in popularity when suppressors are easier to obtain.
It does have some interesting attributes as a sub round that can cover most hunting shot ranges.
Would it be that much different than the 458 Socom I already have?

I think it will if we ever achieve freedom and suppressors are sold next to the skittles in the checkout line at academy

I dont think it does anything your 458 wont do.

I have a 12” “fix” by Q in 8.6 with the porq chop suppressor. I love the design and compactness of it. Super light weight rifle that’s capable of killing damn near anything.
I bought it to take on a Nilgai hunt and it did not disappoint.
I think it’s a bit overkill for whitetail hunting though.
Shooting sub sonics out of it is a bit overrated imo too. The only (sub) capable ammo for it are those fracturing shredder rounds and they’re not very accurate past 75yards.
Super sonic rounds I’ve kept sub moa all the way out to 600 yards though and they’re killer.

If you already have a socom, I would not be intrested in the 8.6.
I don't know what is available commercially, but I load subsonic for my socom using 500gr Horn dang game bullets and shoot it suppresed, it puts down hogs with authority and is quiet

Shep is that running full copper bonded supersonic rounds so they don't blow up with the 1 in 3 twist? I read that people were having really good luck with 1 in 6 barrels for supers

I do love my 458, I joke it's like walking up to a hog and hitting it with a 10lb maul. That is a hog slaying round.

I run the Gorilla 210gr Barnes tsx when shooting supers in the 1:3. Haven’t had any issues with them

Kind of talking out of my arse here, but my father just built one and is now in love with it.

This 100%^^^
No different than .300 BO which is more ubiquitous. I traded my 8.6 BO recently for above reasons.

I would get a 338 ARC over the 8.6. Ammo is going to be more readily available and cheaper. It’s built off the Grendel platform so you can use AR15 lower/parts. A buddy built one and uses a Wolfman can on it. It’s pretty bad arse. The Hornady subsonic delivers 700 ft lbs of energy at 100 yds.
