Might keep Baker a bit longer. Said he wants to be on the Kirby Smart plan.

Matt Flynn asked…. When the time comes, what is it going to be that you’re looking for in your next step?

I really……. I see myself on the Kirby Smart plan. I want… if I don’t get kicked out of here first, when I leave this job, I want it to be the ultimate stop. Like you said, the final destination. And I get it. As coaches, we don’t necessarily always control that, but I don’t want to look at it as a job where I’m moving and then having to move again.

That’s what this place, LSU and obviously dealing with Lane, I think that’s what he can provide. I think if we do what we’re capable of doing and know what this place is capable of doing, I think those opportunities will come up. To kind of sum it up, that’s probably really what I’m looking for.

(Blake may get offered that next year. Who knows? But the simple fact that he is going to wait for the right big time job to come as to only want to settle in once for the family speaks volumes. He did say it. Happy wife. Happy life)

That team may just end up being our own LSU Tigers.

Man, I fricking hate this saying. Marriage is a two way street. This implies only one side gets to decide when things are good.

The saying over here is, “Happy spouse, happy house.”

Ok, I’m off my soap box now

How about "Happy groom, happy room"?

If kiffin wins a bunch of hardware and goes to the NFL, Blake could be the heir apparent too.

I'm 100% for seeing how his defense does over the next year and if it's still rock solid, give him the HC in waiting tag and if Lane ever wants to test the NFL waters again, we've got our guy.

If we can hang on to him that long.

Would love to have him for 2 full seasons with Kiffin. We could really do some damage.

Yeah, I don’t believe in that BS saying either, but if that’s what’s keeping Baker here longer, keep on keeping on. I’m more of the happy king, happy kingdom kind of guy.

Smart approach. he will have a big time job in the near future if he gives LSU an elite defense for 2-3 years. He could be the next coach at Bama with the track they are on.

Be our Kirby when lane leaves inevitably….if he goes to bama/ole miss/ Aggie in a few years, that would be devastating

Obviously, that saying needs an edit. This is my version that I think is hard to argue with:

Unhappy wife, unhappy life.

I am thrilled Baker is staying. But Smart's situation is a little unique and not really a great comparison for Baker. When Smart was hired the upper-level major programs weren't hiring a lot of assistant coaches. Had Smart's alma mater been Memphis instead of Georgia it's unlikely Georgia would have hired him. Many ADs at big time programs with big time expectations are hesitant to take a chance on an assistant who has never been a HC. Smart being a Georgia alum made it more acceptable for the AD to take that risk.
