DT depth?

It seems like we are short in depth at the DT position. Who are the others outside of Anderson being signed that we targeting? Is the expectation that hiring ER should result in a bump or two in that area?

1a. Offensive Line
1b. QB
2. Defensive Line
3. RB (This one might already be taken care of)
POUND the portal in that order.

Geralds is a DT. Actually a perfect one for our scheme. Dorsey-esque. Brown likely ends up inside or at the very least plays there in some sets. This isn't a 3-4 and the days of 300lb Tyson Jackson sized 4 down DEs are not in style anymore unless rare athletic traits come along. Not sure Brown has those rare traits. He has rare traits just not those agile, light footed ones required to play the edge and in space in the modern game.

Good thing we have the Portal King now

DT depth?
You have 6 returning players
Dom
Breaux
Buddy Mathis
Zion
Brandon Brown
Shon Washington
Then the incoming freshmen
Wouldn’t be surprising if you see Brown/Washington/Zion transfer out and you find a more proven player in the portal.
Want to keep Buddy Mathis.

DT depth is great.
Mathis has a chance to be really good. Brandon Brown also got some PT as a true freshman which is promising.
If I had to guess, top 5 guys next year would be:
McKinley
Mathis
Breaux
Brown
Anderson
I think Anderson definitely cracks the rotation. He’s physically ready if his conditioning is under control.
Lamar Brown is a wildcard, no idea what position he plays but he could factor at DT as well. I’m not sleeping on Geralds either. Seems he could be a situational guy at least as a pass rusher.

Hoping they can convince Brown to move to OT

Can’t rely on freshmen or unproven players. This burned the “gotta playsl guys on the roster” posters last offseason when we talked about bringing in more olinemen. “We’ll be fine with Davis” lol

We have good players on DL… we need to recruit them to stay. And if they do, you got some crazy, good talent there.
Breaux and McKinley are JRs
Zion Williams, Walter Mathis, Brandon Brown are Sophomores.
The incoming Freshmen…
If we keep those players, we really don’t need defensive tackles.
We need Edge rushers in a bad way.
It would be great if we could sign an elite edge player—-One that disrupts sheet.
If we have a guy that can demand a double team coming off the end, Deuce Geralds might set a freshman DT record for sacks.
He’s going to be trouble for 20 year old OGs pass blocking him.

6’4 is good but not great height
He has 34 inch arms which is good — remember Campbell was getting crucified for 32 inch arms at 6’6
Definitely has the quickness to play tackle.

You didn’t list a nose guard
They won’t go into the year without at least 1 they can rely on — whether that be Zion or a portal addition
I think you see LSU take 2 DTs — one NG and one 3 tech. And 2 of Brown, Zion, Shon Washington transfer out. JMO.

McKinley, Zion, Anderson or Shone can all play nose.

Brown says he wants to play OT which is what most of his film is focused on. He will NOT be on DL.

We will have to sign about 20 players in the portal to get to 85 scholarships.
I'm sure the staff knows what positions are positions of need.

He was until we got Robinson as DL coach. He almost got Dom to flip to aTm.
