Its just you get the impression from some on here that if you are not from Louisiana...You do not call your Grandmother "Maamaa"...You mother does not cook Jambalaya..etc...You cant be a "Real" Tiger fan...
I in no way feel differently about any LSU fan, the people you are talking about probably have issues anyway.
If you're a LSU Tigerfan then you are ok in my book regardless of geographical location or birthplace.

don't worry about what anybody else thinks...if you think for yourself and know who you are everything else falls into place. remember, we just had a vice presidential candidate who proclaimed that if you didn't think like her...you weren't a 'real american.' simplistic horseshite like that, whether in politics or sports, only serves to illuminate the speakers lack of character.

Bingo. Your not from Louisiana so you don't understand.
Now shut up.

Nobody begrudges kids wanting to play elsewhere. It is a normal thing for many kids to want to "get away" and see other places. Not a thing wrong with it. Hell, I went to Georgetown and lived in DC for 8 years.
What bothers people and rightly so are these kids who make a commitment and say "I am your man" to the coaches and then play moronic hat games at a signing and then give LSU the middle finger. Then they start pumping up other schools and while they may not say anything overt about LSU, the underlying current is there for everyone to see.
Kids like this are complete pieces of shite and so are their so called parents who allow them and often encourage them to act in that manner.

LOL at the hypocrites who were born/raised in LA and now work out of state yet rail on McKnight and others who go to collge out of state
Apples and oranges. I lived out of state for 12 years. the reason was because in my profession (higher ed), there was an extremely limited number of jobs available in the state for my specialty, and most went to people out-of-state. I had no choice but to leave and it broke my heart. So much that I came back home a few years ago and took a job in another profession just to be here. And I don't regret it.
If someone was offered an accounting position in New Orleans and then took an accounting job at a comparable firm and for comparable pay in Dallas, then they're hypocrites.

Wow! I guess everyone should not care about the USA....just believe in nothing. Have no sense of duty or pride for your country, state and fellow man.
Sounds great!

I for one abandoned the hell out of my home state & am only sad about it that I'm too far away to make football games.

Of course you are wrong.
And if you became a LSU fan because we were winning, you are also a frontrunner.
Unless you have some other sort of connection that you didn't mention, why in the world would you choose to root for a random out of state team?

Until you feel a since of deep pride about where you are from...you may never know the answer.

Lay off the bourbon and put down your copy of "Guns & Ammo". No one in this thread said (or implied) what you've suggested.

Pretty much how I feel. The number one deciding factor for rooting for a team should be geography. That covers most people. Sometimes other factors come in such as people or relatives moving etc which can bring in other teams into the picture. Are things like I have always wanted to be a widget technician and Imaginary U. is the school I want to attend even though it is in another state.
Those things can bring another school to the for front. Likewise there are things that can legitimately (in my mind) drive people away. Such as not having a football, basketball program etc. or if the administration is delusional and/or unethical on a long term basis.
Now that said, I think it is justifiable for a player to opt out of the "Home Town School" if their playing style is totally out of sync with the system. For example you are a pro-style qb and your home school run the ball 97% of the time.
Just how I view it.

LSU is basically our one shining star--something to feel proud of.
This is exactly the same reason so many older gumps revere Bear Bryant. His football program was the only thing in Alabama to be proud of in the 60's and 70's.

Kinda harsh. Just sayin'. I would nudge (and I have) all 3 of my kids to go to Alabama if the curriculum fits their major, but no way I could disown my babies if they went to LSU.

lsu is a source of pride for louisana residents and native born.
imagine how powerful that is to a kid to represent the home state.
i cried when we won under saban because i ddn't think it
would happen in my lifetime.

I grew up loving all things LSU, so it's always hard for me to understand top talent leaving because I couldn't imagine doing it.
That being said, I wish they would all go and graduate from LSU...and then they can leave the state like other graduates being "disloyal" to their state.
