George Morris, the only Advocate food writer who actually likes food, wrote a glowing review of the Tasty Casian on Essen. Apparently it aims to be an Asian-Cajun fusion restaurant, has anybody tried it? I have always thought there were a lot of similarities between the two cuisines, fried rice/jambalaya, just wonder if Tasty Casian can pull it off.

You cannot judge by an Advocate review, because they like every place they write about.

I've heard nothing but good things about Tasty Casian, but have not tried it yet.

I have eaten there several times. I will also admit I know the owner but that doesnt change my opinion much. Its a very good lunch spot. His fried shrimp are worth the trip. Also has some very good Pho. Used to be Tasty Cajun but I guess people got confused walking in and seeing a Vietnamese man running the place. He does boiled crawfish when in season too (not sure if he is doing that yet though). Food is nicely priced and he gives you a good portion. No way could I ever finish a bowl of Pho here.

I probably have a menu around here somewhere so I may be able to check but I certainly dont remember it being in that range. A bowl of Pho with every meat he had was like 7 dollars. I seem to recall paying around 6-7 for a shrimp platter.. Of course maybe he had to raise his prices too

here's a link to the review fwiw: LINK

i've heard good things about the place as well, but haven't been able to try it out when I was in town. I'm sure the rest of the prices are fair, but 7 bucks for a vn sammich is a bit steep.

Yikes?

Is that "yikes" cheap or "yikes" too expensive?

Sandwiches are $6-7 at Subway. If $6-7 is too expensive I suggest a can of potted meat and white bread. I don't mean to be insensitive to the needs of staving students, but.

yikes as in expensive.

i guess i'm too used to paying 2.50 for the same sandwich here in houston.

but hey, it is BR and they might be the only one on that side of town offering such a meal...more power to them.

Its a Po-Boy so its going to be alot bigger than anyone on like slices sandwhich bread. Never had a VN Po-Boy or sandwhich though.

Never been to Frosty's so I cant relate. My favorite thing on his menu is by far his fried shrimp.. I believe they are panko crusted.

I was there yesterday. IMO, they have only gotten better over the years. Menu is more extensive but quality has stayed high.

It was about 1:45 and not an empty table in the place. The parking lot still sucks though.

You are from NOLA right? You need to give them a try. Go to the one in Metairie not Gretna.
