Wedge bounce

Been playing a little over a year -
Current wedges always in the bag:
Cleveland Zipcore - 54 degree, 12 degree bounce
Cleveland Zipcore - 58 degree, 10 degree bounce
Old Irons (mizuno, still using) vs. new irons (taylormade, trying to get used to)
Mizuno GW - 50 degree, 5 degree bounce
Mizuno PW - 45 degree, 4 degree bounce
Taylormade Stealth AW - 49 degee, 9 degree bounce
Taylormade Stealth PW - 43 degree, 7.8 degree bounce
That 54 is used almost exclusively out of the sand, maybe from the rough depending on distance. I've been trying to force that 58 as my universal around the greens/chipping club and I am thinking that if that is how I want to approach, I need bounce closer to 6 or 8 degrees (or maybe even less). My biggest headache is skulling shots from tight lies that are just a little too far to putt....

I'm playing the opposite bounce right now on my 54 and 58 (10 on 54 and 12 on 58). Using the 58 out of the sand. But thinking I should possibly switch that up. Using the 58 around the greens more than the 54 lately and certainly giving up a lot of strokes with my inconsistent short game. Skull my fair share across the green.

Some of it is dependent on your technique and how firm, soft, or tight the course you're playing is, but I'd generally lean toward your 54 being the around the greens/chipping club.
It's easier to make better contact with lower lofted wedges, and 58 is getting close to lob wedge territory where your only option is to go high.
As an aside, if you feel like your gapping is off and it also makes sense to add or remove bounce, having someone bend a wedge will take proportionally more or less bounce off. For example, bending your 58 to a 57 would also turn your 10 degrees of bounce into 9. Just another option.

I think most pros would suggest playing as much bounce as you can get away with unless you are a highly skilled short game expert around the greens. Also, I think they’d recommend that you use the lowest lofted club that you can for chipping getting the ball on the ground and rolling versus playing everything greenside with a lob wedge

Certainly makes sense....
I'm not nearly good enough to try and execute some of the things I've been trying to do - moving the ball up or back in my stance and changing how far ahead of the ball my hands are to affect the actual loft of the club at the point of impact. At this point in my journey, I just want to focus on a consistent stroke.

I think most would say you have that backwards. Nothing wrong with that but your 58 is going to be a better option out of the sand and your 54 is going to be a easier weapon to use all around the green.
There are few things i hate more than chipping with a lob wedge.

I’ve gone so deep down this rabbit hole that my head hurts any time I think about loft, bounce, grind, etc. There are just so many variables at play that determine which setup is best.
quote:58° low bounce is probably your best bet. You can manipulate it quite a bit when needed. I use a 58°8M as my do-all wedge.

I said I was going to do a wedge fitting when it was time to buy a new one but they had Vokeys on sale for Black Friday so I pulled the trigger.
So many freaking variables. I just did the find the right wedge for you think on Vokeys website and went with that. It is a high bounce but I'm second guessing myself because my 56 is my do it all club and the high bounce doesn't have quite the versatility. I just have a very steep swing with a heavy divot on my full wedge shot so figured it'd be better for that.

Keeping your hands forward is a real key

Take a look at Edison wedges.

This thread just sent me down a rabbit hole

I also play Cleveland Zipcores in:
54* Mid 10
58* High 12
The opposite of what OP has, which seems a common theme here.
54* with the mid bounce is an all around green side club, with the 58* being a sand or thick rough club.
Agree with everything being said here about getting the ball onto the ground to run it towards the hole.
There are so many bounce/grind options out there that I finally decided to use the KISS method, Keep It Simple Stupid, and go with that 54 Mid/58 High combination.
