Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator Terry Cole told CBS News that President Trump's military strikes on suspected drug-running vessels in the Caribbean have helped drive a sharp increase in cocaine prices.

"Cocaine is getting more expensive. And I think what it is — not only more expensive in the U.S., but we're seeing it become more expensive at first stops. So more expensive in Puerto Rico, more expensive in the Dominican, more expensive once it lands in Guatemala and Honduras and Central America," Cole said.

Cole said cocaine prices have surged 30% to 45% per kilogram because the strikes are disrupting the command-and-control networks that move drugs from South and Central America into the U.S. These trafficking pipelines have mainly fueled the nation's deadly drug epidemic, which now claims roughly 100,000 American lives each year.

Much of the increased cost is now being incurred at transit points, including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Honduras.

He said hiring boat captains, purchasing engines, and building larger transport vessels are also on the rise.

"It's now more expensive to recruit boat captains, it's more expensive to purchase engines, it's more expensive to build larger boats for transportation," he added. "And this is all due to immense pressure."

Democrats and Deep State media outlets have been up in arms about the Trump administration using the military to eliminate Venezuelan drug boats. We wonder why the left is so up in arms about cutting the drug pipelines fueling America's worst-ever drug death crisis.

So the boats aren't taking fentanyl to the US?

Why would cocaine prices in the US rise if those drugs weren't eventually making their way to the US?

You are playing word games as if cocaine is not laced with fentanyl and as if people didn't OD on cocaine before fentanyl was a thing.

That's great. Is it some kind of mystery how the drugs make it from Trinidad and Tobago to the US?

Why aren't we blowing up boats north of Trinidad and Tobago that we KNOW are headed to the US?

Trump had caused inflation in this particular area of 30 to 45 percent. And the people who use these services are democrats. So the democrats are fighting mad especially after Trump said he would lower inflation...

Holy crap. Who the hell down voted the obvious sarcasm here?

The fact that prices went up means that the things the administration is doing has made it harder on the drug cartels. That means it is working.

Why would anyone think that Trump effectively targeting drug cartels is a bad thing?

The statement that democrats are mad because they primarily use the illegal drugs because they are all crazy, unhappy and addicts and thus they are mad at trump for causing the inflation was further sarcasm.

Good lord. 7 got it but 10 didn't. Unless my post pissed off every Democrat poster that much.

In before SlowFlowPro says the drug epidemic is not a supply issue but a demand issue.

You're conflating 2 very different things.

Fentanyl was the excuse/talking point to morph these actions into some weird "terrorist" angle. Cocaine was not.

Cocaine potentially being laced with fentanyl domestically by street-level drug dealers has no relation to the contorted international terrorism label.

The counterpoint to this being a domestic security mission (via terrorism) was always that these products (a) weren't fentanyl and/or (b) weren't even coming to the US. Your story seems to be confirming both of those things. How is blowing up shipments of cocaine headed to Europe in any way a national security concern for the US?

Hey you want to drive this sweet Grady White to an undisclosed location where you most likely won’t make it alive?

HELL YEAH! Where do the checks go?

It's a both of those issues. If cocaine is too expensive, addicts don't suddenly stop. They go to something cheaper and easier to obtain.

Extrapolate this to opioids and that's what caused the fentanyl crisis
