Why Doesn’t Ole Miss Promote Weis to HC?

Has this been discussed at all? If Kiffin is headed to LSU, why not just make Weis the permanent HC?
I imagine Weis would take the job instead of being the OC at LSU.

For the same reason we didn't promote Frank.
For the same reason y'all didn't promote someone from the staff when you hired DeBoer.
For the same reason UF isn't promoting up.

Because Kiffin is trying to bring Weis and other staff members with him now. If the head coach is not allowed to coach in the CFP, why would any other coaches wanting to go to LSU be allowed to? That is Kiffin's argument.

Weis was a disaster at ND. I honestly can’t believe he is even still alive.

But Weis is a young, offensive guy who has been mentored by Kiffin for years and it’d help keep continuity on the team, rather than going out and trying to bring in someone new.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be a decent hire, just that it's nearly impossible now to get promoted up, permanently, from an OC position to HC if you're a young up and comer in the SEC.
Seems the playbook is to go cut your teeth somewhere else, and then come back when you have some solid schools under your belt.
Saban and Bama being the exception when he was running the "former HC reclamation projects" so successfully...
