Son was bored so we went down to Old LA1 in Leeville to fish off side of road. Wasn't taking boat in that wind.

Long story short he hooked a 20" redfish that immediately broke his line off at the top of cork. So we would see him swimming with the cork down the opposite bank which was probably 25-30 yards away. Which in that wind was as far as you could throw. He would disappear and come back up after a few minutes. So I put a 3/8 jighead with a bait on another rod and low and behold on about the 5th cast as far as I could throw it. Landed right behind the cork and spooked fish. Jerked it at the right time and I couldn't believe it. Gave him no slack and horsed him across bayou and up on the bank. Check out the pic. I have no idea how that worked out.

lol that’s awesome. I’ve tried to hook a broken off cork a ton of times and have never been able to do it. Almost better than catching the fish!

On same subject, always tie popping corks fresh to main line every trip. Don’t use multiple trips to reduce chance of breakage. I stick to this rule and haven’t had one break again. Those 4 horseman are expensive lol

Fishing TB with my Gfather and brother out of Pirates Cove, my brother thought using an ultra-lite rig would be fun for bass. He hooked one and it broke his line. I reel my line in, and I have his line tangled in my bait. Grab his line and there it is.

One time it worked, sent cork and trout back to my buddy who lost it.
Time for a new cork?

Great story - you even included the mandatory foot in the photo of your catch!
