Looking for PS5 game suggestions for me and my son

We just played through Spider-Man 2 together and enjoyed it. Looking for something along those lines if possible (but not necessarily going back to Spider-Man 1 or Miles Morales). Considering the Horizon games, but wasn’t sure if there would be a better option.

When you say “play together”, I assume you mean “play through at the same time” and not co-op?
And how old is the kid?

Do y'all like co-op games? Try "It takes Two" or "Overcooked". There's another one like it takes two but I can't recall the name.

Yeah, not co-op necessarily (not against a co-op game though). Just something we can enjoy together and I can help if he gets stuck.

Split Fiction is very good.

That's the one I was trying to think of. Great game, and fun controls

That looks cool, was not on my radar at all. Appreciate it

Me and my son have been playing Hollow Knight together. It's been enjoyable, and it's pretty cheap so not a huge investment

Horizon Zero Dawn is a great game, the RPG elements make it a bit longer than it should be, would have been amazing if it was streamlined a bit more. That being said the story is awesome, the robot animals are a great puzzle for beating bosses and crafting. There is a story beat about 4 hours in that hooked me hard on that game. That being said, I didn’t really like the sequel all that much.

For co-op we like Pummel Party, Vampire Survivors, Abathor, Streets of Rage, and TMNT Shredder’s Revenge. We are 5 in the house so everyone who wants to can play and most of these games aren’t too pricey.
For a single player I’ll go robotic and say we enjoyed Transformers Devastation (ps4), Armored Core Fires of Rubicon, and Vanquish which was remastered in 2020.
Not sure on your rules with blood and such but my teenager is enjoying Rise of the Ronin. Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is a great game too.
Edit to add that Ghost of Tsushima is amazing I played on PS4 pro and it looked great. My friends tell me the PS5 version is amazing.

Just snagged TMNT on PlayStation Plus. He younger, so trying to keep realistic violence/language to a minimum.

Not sure how old he is, but my son is 12 and he and I beat the new Indiana Jones game together and had a blast. Not much language at all, if you don't mind him exposed to a little Nazi Bashin'

Elden Ring. You can die together 4 million times in the tutorial battling a Knight with a 20’ spear with your 6” knife. Such fun!!! But ohhhh the graphics of your constant death are so exquisite.

frick are you talking about?
You’re supposed to die to the tutorial boss; you then get moved into the game proper. Also, the graphics are far from exquisite

Dude….lol I fought that bastard 3 hours!

I evaded him only to have some old dude in a diaper kill me repeatedly. If I wanted this abuse I wouldn’t have retired.

"Knack" is a great co-op game for those with young kids, my 5-year-old loves playing that one with me and is the game she learned to use a gaming controller on. Player 1 controls the progress of the game, if Player 1 dies then you return to the last checkpoint. Player 2 helps with forward progress but can die and come back an infinite # of times without affecting your place in the game.
