UFC 324-JAN 24 VEGAS

LW INTERIM BELT:
Paddy Pimblett vs Justin Gaethje

Womens Bantamweight belt:
Kayla Harrison vs Amanda Nunes

UFC 325-JAN 31 SYDNEY

FW BELT:
Alex Volk vs Diego Lopes 2

Co-main:
TBD

BANGERS. However, Volk vs Lopes 2 is strange. Lerone Murphy is not happy about getting passed up for the shot in favor of Lopes. The Gaethje vs Paddy hype should be awesome thought

What am I missing, why is there an interim Lightweight belt? Didn’t Topuria just win the belt?

Topuria and his wife are divorcing. She wants full custody of the kids. Apparently she was intimating with posts on Instagram that Topuria was physically abusive during the marriage.

Wow, actually that is bulls***. Arman just said he would be ready to go at the end of January.

Any money says either Gaethje or Paddy or both wouldn't take the fight if it was against Arman, so UFC said fine, we'll just do Gaethje-Paddy then.

One of the worst announcements. The mma community is in shock and outraged.

Paddy vs Justin? Paddy last 3 wins were 38 year old chandler, 37 year old Bobby Green, 38 year old Tony Ferguson. All combined for a 1 win streak. Jeez, for a multibillion dollar company, the ufc planning is shite. If everything fails, just throw an interim belt to salvage an event. And Justin Gaethje is on a 1 fight win steak vs a short notice opponent. He’s been whining and crying that he’d retire if he doesn’t get a title shot. Is anyone sad to see Rufus retire?

Didn’t Armen who said he’s ready for January after destroying Hooker and taking no damage? So winner will fight ilia in what July, August? And what’s Arman the #1 contender to do during all this?

And Ilia is great talent but he’s acting like a diva punk. You’re the LW champ. His last fight was in June and that fight took a minute and he’s been inactive since with no fight on the horizon. Oh but He has time to yap about JDM, Islam after UFC 322. Now he’s all avoiding Armen. “Oh, I got personal problems. I can’t fight”.
Stop running from the #1 contender. His aura has taken a big hit lately.

And what’s the deal with Volk vs Lopes? Does UFC really need a Mexican champ that bad? This fight no one is asking for. We got Movsar who’s 10-0 in the ufc and beat Lopes. We got Lerone Murphy also undefeated. Volk asked for both and got neither. What disrespect. Remember the ufc was angling for Volk vs Yair 2? Another undeserved title shot. But mma community spoke up against it and ufc scrap that idea. So they learned the lesson and really snuck Volk vs Lopes 2.

Hopefully Illia can be reddy for the White House card, but that divorce is getting nasty.

Genuinly don't know how Kayla makes Bantamweight many more times.

I don't like introducing an interim title here. Topuria should drop the belt if he isn't in the mood to defend it.

He can challenge whoever the current champ is when he decides to return.

Maybe Topuria stipulated that the interim fight should be Paddy vs. Justin. So then he can return to fight one of them. I mean it was kind of being floated that he would fight one of them, so maybe with this divorce he said let them duke it out and I'll fight the winner when I come back.

Arman getting snubbed bad here.

Islam vs. Topuria at the White House at about 0% chance of happening now.

Although Arman canceling the day before the fight vs. Islam is probably playing a big part here as well. I'm sure they weren't happy with that, maybe they are paying him back with this snub.

Everyone who knows anything about mma wants to see Ilia vs Arman bc it’s the most compelling and difficult match up. Ilia would smoke old arse Gaethje. Anyone who wants to see ilia vs paddy is in it from drama bs. And that “hand sanitizer boy” incident took place 3 years ago so who cares. Ilia is -600 vs paddy.

So if paddy vs Justin in January. So winner fights ilia in June or July at the earliest? So Arman has to fight someone else or wait till December 2026 for his title shot?

And ilia would never dare to step up to 170 to fight Islam after seeing how strong he is at WW.

He won’t be. He’s 100% the next title shot

Yeah, that's the thing, not only does Arman get snubbed for this title shot, but then he has to wait until after Topuria fights whoever wins Gaethje-Paddy. It's a double whammy.

Let's see. Topuria was saying he would fight Islam at WW before the JDM fight, but maybe you're right, maybe he'll come to his senses about it. But usually he thinks he can beat anyone. This divorce scrambles the whole UFC puzzle, though. Islam might just fight Usman and Garry or someone else and call it a career.

Ilia went from “I’m going to submit Islam” before 322 to “Islam is boring” post 322. In an interview he said he wants to fight Islam at 162.5 for the p4p title. So we’re going to stall 2 divisions do ilia can chase Islam at an unofficial weight class? And who knows what kind of addition personal issues he’s going pull out then. He’s just all over the place right now.

Told y'all this was the play. Gaethje is about to retire. UFC is rewarding him for his work for the company. Can't risk fighting him again for a non-title fight and him losing and he hasn't fought in a while. Would've been a quick turnaround for Arman.

Movsar Evloev is probably the guy who got fricked the most. The UFC has zero love for that guy and obviously wanting an action-packed fight to kick off the Paramount era. Guessing they're going to make him fight a title eliminator against Lerone?

If he said that post-322, then yeah, he must be taking Islam's strength at WW into account now.

On paper he's still undefeated and has just knocked out Volk-Max-Charles one after the other. Taking time off is the smart thing to do, can't be losing sleep and mental energy on divorce proceedings when you're preparing for a fight. He will still be favored against Gaethje or Paddy when he returns.

Actually you did call this one verbatim pretty much. Even I had my doubts, I thought they were going to tell Gaethje tough luck.

Hope Gaethje beats Paddy. Then at a minimum he'll be like Poirier, interim champ at least.

Paddy's got length on Gaethje, keeps his distance, and he's got wrestling. I don't think he'll be able to do to Justin what he did to Chandler, but Gaethje's gotta watch out, try not to get caught on the ground with him.

It's a huge fight.

I get everybody’s issue with the fight but I’m pretty pumped about it. Gaethje is still competing at a high level and has won 3 of his last 4. He’s still got fire in his hands. I was a Paddy hater for awhile but he looked great against Chandler and he seems big for 155. Plus it has the classic American vs Brit angle going for it

On the other card im terrified for Volk. Hes one of my favorite fighters of all time. I bought his last fight against Lopes fully expecting him to get knocked out and was on my feet the entire time nervous as hell, but he shocked the hell out of me and pulled it off. It’s going to be tough to do it twice but I’ll be rooting for him again.
