I would think in this case LSU just wants it to go away. They probably could drag it out and maybe settle but they don't want to deal with it from a PR standpoint.

No, they're forcing him to actually look for a job. All the rest was posturing from both sides trying to do a lump sum and remove the mitigation clause.
He is going to have to find a job at market value like James Franklin did and offset it.
