In praise of Mission BBQ

We ordered our Thanksgiving smoked turkey (turkey breast and one smoked turkey leg) from Mission BBQ for the first time. I had no idea they do smoked turkey.
At pickup time they apologized that it would take 5-10 min. to prep my order for pickup and they offered me a fountain drink gratis. Then the man comes out with a box the size of a file box. I tell him I only ordered turkey. He says 'yes, but there are a few gifts from us in there.' Turns out they gave us full size gravy, full size cranberry sauce and half size sweet potato mash.
Such a blessing! And he even offered to carry the box to my car. Why the praise? Because, in this day and age, when everyone treats everyone else like cow dung, I really appreciated the grace and service. Above and beyond the call of duty! And it made me smile, which I can always use!
Patronize them if you are lucky enough to have them in your area. If you happen to be there at noon, all activity stops, everyone rises (employees and customers) and they play the national anthem.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

I used to work with an Army veteran who refused to eat there

Pics or it didn’t happen

I'm sorry for him. They give preferential treatment to veterans in hiring, and they receive all kinds of freebies and discounts. And the entire place has photos and military memorabilia.
To each his own, I guess!

What was his reasoning for refusing to eat there?

I’ve been trying to remember why but I just can’t
I’ve never eaten there, but myself and other coworkers used to joke about going there for lunch to get him riled up

Ok, I guess I’m missing the point as to why you found it necessary to mention he was a Veteran.

I usually won’t touch a chain BBQ place, but I really like Mission BBQ.

Because it’s a military themed restaurant…

Thank you. That answered the question for myself and others that know nothing about Mission BBQ and what they do. Good for them.

Had my first experience at an event they catered over the weekend. Sides were excellent! Will definitely eat in one sometime

They are literally a restaurant dedicated to service workers like the military, police, and firemen. They do all kinds of of service work, close on all major holidays so their employees can be with their families, have pictures dedicated to military and police all over the restaurant walls, and they have their employees sing the pledge of allegiance at noon every day.
They are one of the most Merica oriented businesses around. A military person being anti Mission BBQ is weird as hell given how much free stuff and discounts they give service people, and how they genuinely support them. Hell, they even have a separate register so service members can skip the line and get rung up quicker.
My oldest daughter has worked at the one that opened recently here for about six months (and is ironically headed to work to grab her free turkey for us right now). They are a business that legit takes supporting military members seriously.

Would eat at the one in Boynton Beach when I was on duty. There was the nicest black lady there who would hook us up with free desserts. There brisket sandwich wasn't too bad, either.

Nothing like riling up a veteran with PTSD......

Mission BBQ is an American barbecue restaurant chain based in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Bill Kraus and Steve Newton opened the first location on September 11, 2011, as a way to support the military, police, firefighters, and first responders.
I think the closest location of the chain is in Florida

Was the brisket flat tender and juicy? That's the real test
