Who's Okay with the Play-calling?

Okay, Sloane is gone...and he well should be with the mundane play calling he put out under his watch, but are we really happy with the play calling since then?
I keep seeing this big, bearded fellow in the pressbox who the announcers describe as Alex something or another and that he's calling plays now. If he's trying to impress someone to maybe keep the job or something like that, I suggest he ramp it up quite a bit cause his playcalling is just as bad as Sloane's. If that's what he has to offer, I say send him packing!
I want to see passes go downfield...not sideways and the receiver gets tackled 2 to 3 yards behind the line. I want to see quick slants where the receiver catches the ball in stride and grinds out significant yardage. I don't want to see stupid assed trick plays like the whole offensive line shifting as they did, only to be called an illegal formation cause the inept linemen didn't realize they needed to be up on the line.
Is this asking too much? Well, maybe it is for this team that BK left us with.

The trick play was mind blowing. Did they even practice it? The line looked ridiculous trotting over there two yards behind the line of scrimmage.
To answer your question though, I’m not sure there are plays to call that would be effective with our horrible OL.

If last night proved anything, it's that the QB can't trust his receivers to catch the ball downfield....and I suspect, the entire offensive scheme was geared to the short passes that are effectively long hand offs

The o-line can’t protect long enough for longer downfield plays to develop and they can’t run block to save their lives. So they have to use shorter horizontal plays to supplement the run and to hope their athletes can create YAC. The play calling is predicated on the hand that’s been dealt. And the coaches got dealt a crappy o-line. And it was made worse by the fact that Moore went out injured.

Was interesting. Last night, I think we learned a lot that we didn’t necessarily know. We certainly couldn’t risk calling plays that would risk putting us in a bind.

I am okay with all of it till the new coach comes in. The team is rudderless.

They need to let Rattay call the game.
Can't be worse than Atkins.

There's nothing this team can do with that OFFENSIVE offensive line. Can't run, can't hold a pass block. This is who they are. It won't change this season. No magic available. These coaches are doing what they can with very limited talent.

The talent is there.

For next year's offensive line. This group is young, weak, inexperienced, and injured.

We need to put serious money into the next OLine coach. I don’t care if he is a good recruiter or not. There has been no development with our OLine since Kelly arrived. Campbell and Jones both started as freshman, but never really developed. I want a guy that is a master of technique, strength, and conditioning.

The O-line wasn’t coached up with fundamentals snd toughness . Get back to sleds , not electronic sports bras . MVB hasn’t played enough to develop chemistry with receivers . He needs to work on seeing the entire field and reading the defense over the summer . Still and all , nice effort . kudos to Frank Wilson .

You can't install a new offense in week #10. We are what we are. We'll lose 23-3 at Oklahoma next week and wrap this thing up.

i didn't mind the calls as much as i did the execution.
It's certainly the OL and TE blocking. I liked some of the run calls and the wr sweeps mixed in.
problem is too many times the blocking breaks down
heck there was one run play with Cade to the left, like a trap play that if everyone held their own he was taking it for a long gain.

And now you finally see why I never blamed Sloan. Because Sloan, wasnt the problem. He is limited to not only what our OL can do, but also the decision making of Nuss which was questionable.
Yall know why we never had passes to the middle? Because Sloan called it the first 4 games of the season and Nuss refused to throw it even though it was wide open, so he just stopped calling plays to the middle.

Another issue is if we are fortunate to get good pass blocking to give our QB a good pocket and our receivers are somehow able to get open downfield, van Buten still had a difficult time hitting them as he is woefully inaccurate.
His arm strength isn’t lacking. Just his ability to hit a barn

Well … the old Saban was alot like the old Bear Bryant . He sat in a chair with his sun hat and highly processed food crappy cookies and watched practice like a hawk . He didn’t leave everything to chance and go to the country club . I think if they get a coach who is attentive and most importantly , Loves The Game … they will do great !! ??
